Does anyone know any electronics store in town that may still have a HP Touchpad?
I know all major websites are sold out, but was thinking smaller local stores may still have some in stock...

Check online...that's pretty much your only hope. The employees at the electronics stores hid their inventories for themselves and now they're flipping them on craigslist for $250+.

I thought Leo LaPorte said HP was not gonna be making them anymore. And, I thought he said that Walmart had TONS of them in stock. Giving them away if you bought a TV.... Check Leo LaPorts website for more info on that. He was talking about it last weekend on his radio show

HP aren't going to be making them anymore. They dropped the price to $100 to get rid and apparently found the sweet spot in terms of non ipad pricing hence the sell out seemingly everywhere. sorry i can't help. I'd snap one up at that price as well.

Don't waste your money! Don't even take it for free, like Samsung and a few other places are offering. Why? Try to find apps & support for those "dead dogs" after six months. Get the real deal - Apple iPad2 - It's the pad that all other companies attempt to pirate and eventually fail. Gotta love those Apple products. iPhone 5 in the next 30 days - Watch for it - guaranteed Even more great Apple goodies are getting ready for the holiday season too. Are you ready?

Don't buy one. Apps are the "fuel" for these tablets. the HP has just a few hundred apps while the Apple Ipad has well over 100,000. The tablet is dead on arrival, HP is even going to stop making consumer computers as well. Penny wise pound foolish is not the way to go.

878P is 100% correct...buy the real deal, an iPad2 (I have the original, but want the 2). You'll never regret it, I use it every day, it's fantastic. Love it. Not that long ago, "they" said no one would, or should, buy an iPad! Bahhhh!....Apple is now bigger than Exxon. Man, I wish I owned some stock.

I'd buy an iPad.... Apple is the disruptor who, along with android devices have killed Rim, Nokia, and now HP. Still not to late to buy stock. It is as cheap now on a price to earnings to growth valuation than during the depths of the 2008 recession. I just bought more shares. The number one phone is the iphone4, the number two is the iPhone 3GS. Apple has the number one and the number two smartphone in the USA... Apple will likely launch a cheaper pre paid iPhone alongside the iPhone 5. This will be huge for china and the rest of Asia who depend on prepaid model. Invest in apple they are just getting started. I'd agree with the other commenters -- although $99 seems like a good price, the hpPad is falling off the back of the technology wagon and will be frustrating to use within a year. Come on, drink the KoolAide, it tastes sweet....

Unless your wanting it next to your Audrey or Newton, I don't see the point of spending 99 bucks on this. Honestly, there is a reason HP killed it along with all of their PC business. It's just not that great, and worse yet won't be supported. I am in agreement with others, unless your a collector, go for an Android tablet or iPad.

Wow, the iSlaves have spoken! Look, it's a device with an excellent display (as good as iPad), that performs many useful functions--web browsing, word processing, photo editing, chatting, etc... (as good as iPad), and that will be technologically "current" for at least 2 years (as good as iPad). It's 80% cheaper than an iPad due to a special, one time only deal. The only difference is that it doesn't have that Apple logo. There's no warm and fuzzy "I'm an aging hipster" feel that comes along with owning it. You'll only enjoy the "I'm not a fool and I know a bargain when I see one" feeling!

Agree with 945. The Apple Core will tell you how no other product is as good and everything else will be obsolete next year and then they dump their iphone3 for the iphone4 the following year and then dump that for the iphone5 and then will dump that next year. If you just look at the specs without the product name, you will find that the Apple is not always the best product. Here is the typical Apple release cycle: 1. Jobs reveals the latest product which critics point out is missing key functionality. 2. Jobs strongly states that no one needs that functionality. 3. Jobs releases the second version of the product which is greatly enhanced. Critics point out that it now has the critical missing functionality it should have had in the original release. Now if you could only make a clear phone call with it....

Why would you rush out to buy a product that the manufacturer doesn't even believe in anymore? HP canned the thing because it is a failure, just like most of the android and webOS tablets whose supply chains are backed up due to low demand. The only way they sell is to drop the price and break-even (or worse in HP's case). For those of you who think the iPad is just about the apple logo - "if you can't tell the difference, why pay the difference" - for those of us who can tell, we will continue to be very happy with out iPads and iPhones.

The old rant about comparing hardware specs is no more true for tablets than it is for desktop computers. Yes, Apple's hardware is beautifully designed, but IT IS ALL ABOUT SOFTWARE. No other company can even come close to the intuitiveness and elegance of their operating systems, let alone the seamless integration with the hardware. That only happens in a company with a vertically integrated model -designing their own hardware AND software in house. No other maker is doing that right now, but you can bet Google is going to try with their pending purchase of Motorola's mobile unit. Not only are other tablet and phone makers copying the hardware, now the owner of the other major mobile OS (android) is going to try and copy the business model too. So with the overwhelming majority of consumers voting with their dollars, and engineers "flattering" with their copying, and Google giving a nod to the business model, betting against Apple looks like the wrong position to me . . . how's that Zune working out for ya?

@945 There is very little software for the HP web OS that the touchpad runs on. No other manufacturer uses web os. So yeah you can buy a $100 screen but it's funticonality is extremely limited. Might be good for a digital photo frame but not much more. HP discontinued production, their hardware is dead. Their os will be sold off. People like their apple products for good reason. They work well and are a pleasure to use. It's not a cult, its people who recognize a superior computing experience.

on the other hand, who even has time to screen all these thousands of apps, try them out, and then use them. Something like a Kindle or a auto GPS unit has 1-3 programs on it, but they're still useful. If maybe 5-10 applications would be helpful for your life, then that's all you need, unless you're going to be ignoring your children and friends by trying out games and random scheduler programs.

@Ceph There were what...100,000 WebOS Touchpad users before the fire sale. HP reportedly sold at least 350,000 Touchpads on Friday and Saturday alone. As a matter of fact, the Touchpad is the best selling tablet in America--for the moment. Any device with ~500,000 users is going to see new apps developed. Furthermore, HP is not discontinuing WebOS--they are getting out of the hardware business, and getting into the software and services business. WebOS will be around for a long, long time, but it will be more like Android (in that it's an OS made by HP that runs on devices made by others).

At $99 it's a a great deal, hell I paid more for a digital frame a couple of years ago and that did nothing and had no chance of ever being updated in software either! I have an ipad but would still buy this. It would make a great dedicated touchscreen jukebox Digital picture frame recipe book (no more worrying about salsa on your $500+ ipad) If I could find one, I'd snap it up. that said at any more than the firesale price it'd be a no.

I have an iphone. I liked it when I got it. I loved it once I jailbroke it & was able to install non-apple apps. I'm not an apple lover. I like my phone, and used to have an ipod. But I will never spend that much on an ipad. I'd snatch up the HP tablet in a sec if I could find one. It's comparable price-wise to most color e-readers, has internet, and you can watch movies. It sounds like an excellent deal to me. Even without all the apps. Of course, if you are the type of person to have a million apps & use the tablet all the time, go for the ipad.

Didn't read all the comments so maybe this was mentioned already, but I heard on NPR yesterday that HP is giving up production of PCs, touchpads, and smart phones, so buying one now does not seem like a good idea. They are going to focus on software and the printer ink business. Ink, man, that must be very profitable! Refilling twice costs as much as the printer did in the first place!

I understand the reason it is $99 is because they discontinued it, that's why I want it. If I can get on the internet and it's portable, I don't care about the software or apps... its $99!! I'll use it for a year and then get a different one. It's $99! I know the ipad is better, it's also $500.

$99 bucks is a great deal for a tablet. Who cares about apps? I have an Ipad2 and hardly even use the apps. The HP is perfect if you want to surf the net, or watch movies, or whatever. Not to mention, there's already a group of hackers that are working on a system to install Android on it. That should be done shortly. Great deal at $99 bucks if you can get one. There's a couple of places that have the 32GB online at $149, but 16GB is pretty tough.

Both 206935 and 206945 get it wrong. HP killed it not because it's not a good device -- it is -- but because they made a very foolish decision to drop the price by $100 a week after it went on the market, and so people just waited for the price to drop further. OTOH, it's very incorrect to say that the only difference is the label ... that was pretty much true when it went on the market, but not now that HP has abandoned it. As for buying one: it would be a great deal at $100 and a lot of people scored, but they simply aren't available at that price any more.

Steve Jobs dies and Apple Stock drops to 100 a share...where it was a few years ago which will still be much better than where it was at the end of 2001 around 16 dollars a share. Apples great I use them, but the touchpad is perfect for someone who just wants web browsing etc on a tablet same thing 70% of the Ipad users do with them. If you have to have a Ipad the 64gb 3G Wifi Ipad 1 is only 429 from ATT no contract

HP webos is being shopped around for sale just like the hardware business. Samsung may be a potential buyer now that google bought motorola mobility. 500,000 HP tablets at $100 a piece is not outselling the ipad. The ipad sold 9.2 million units last quarter. Each one had a profit vs a loss for HP. Yes Steve jobs will, like all people, die someday. Then the stock will drop and I will buy more stock. Then people will realize that the products and company are still great and selling just as well as before and the stock will skyrocket. But feel free to invest in RIMM, NOKIA or HP if that's what you like. Jobs has created an amazing company that will be profitable long after his death.

I own, love, and heavily use my iPad, but know what my "killer app" is? Its called safari. its a web browser, and they were invented in the 90s. Apple didnt have much to do with it. And they're hardly the only company who can make a computer that operates. True, the future of the hardware and software is unknown. I assume anyone with the persistence to track down one of these $99 HPads is well aware of this. Its hardly like once HP shuts down their WebOS division that the devices will all simultaneously and spectacularly fail to boot. ... Unlike my last 3 ipods, actually, which have all managed to quietly and peacefully die in their sleep anywere from one to six months after their warranty period... In fact, the impending demise of WebOS is part of the allure for many, as the hope is that developers will find a way to open-up the platform for hacking and experimentation. Open platform? Hacking? Experimentation? Its no wonder so many of my fellow apple fans seem so out of their element.

When Steve Jobs dies, you'll see the stock take a quick sympathy turn south by $5-$10, then it will pop back to the $400+ range on its way to the mid $500's. No doubt. You read it here first. You can thank me later after you picked up some shares at today's bargain price of $389 per. You think I jest? Bet you anything it crosses $400 by Sept. 6th. Game on. Go Apple!
