Arborist
updated: Aug 18, 2011, 6:29 AM
We have five 80 year old orange trees on our property, and we are wondering if anyone knows of a good and reasonable arborist who knows citrus trees who could tell us what life, if any, is left in these trees. We are thinking of removing them but are hesitant to do so if they still have productive years ahead of them.

We had Bartlett come out and trim our fruit trees, and we asked a lot of questions so that we could do it in the future. Very nice and friendly and we'll call them for any future tree needs.

Agri-Turf Supplies at 2257 Las Positas _569-2257_ has a very knowledgeable guy that may be able to assess your plot. (He was recommended.) He talked me through a list of best conditions for healthy orange trees (over the phone) ... and said that he is available to come out and assess trees, soil conditions, and watering practices. [Sorry, I don't remember his name but the staff of Agri-Turf will know!!]

We recommend Chris Newton (805) 729-5355! We needed major work done on an oak tree and used edhat readers' Arborist referrals when choosing one. Chris did great work and also assessed our other trees. He's a nice person and easy to talk with, too.

I cannot contribute to your needs but think that you might be able to help out a local non-profit. I just became aware that Transition House is always in need of fresh fruit for their sack lunches. If you happen to spare any fruit I recommend that you keep them in mind for a donation.
