Those are Roosevelt Elk that inhabit the coast from N. Calif to Washington. They provided food to Lewis & Clark expidition. The men were tired of salmon and missed the buffalo meat. In the winter they stayed in Astoria Or. and nearly cleared the area of elk. They are a beautiful animal, protected now, and easily viewed especially around Prairie Creek State Park in Humboldt County

Imagine the muscles it takes for an elk to carry around a rack like that and, presumably, not get a stiff neck.
Good photos - - thanks!
