Forgotten Pillars
March 30, 2009
2009 March Edness ended in the same way it started. The first two pictures of the month were Circuit City and Bee's Wing Art - two businesses that are no longer in business. The picture shown here is cut from the same cloth. The big difference between the beginning of March pictures and this one is that few people were able to locate these abandoned pillars.
Maybe just too much time has passed. But, once upon a time there was a major hospital on the Upper East Side. The St. Francis Medical Center was built more than 100 years ago. In 2003, it was purchased by Cottage Hospital, who has been planning to build employee housing on the spot. Maybe local residents can't identify the California Street parking lot entrance to the old hospital, but most people know that the proposed project has been an extremely contentious issue.
Today, it appears that Cottage Hospital has won the battle (we wait for Cheri Rae to correct us).
Two people located this picture correctly. The team of Pazzo/Noodleman didn't get it right, and Mr. Peabody could have won the contest with a correct answer. But, the pillars eluded him as well.
Congratulations to Pazzo Noodleman - March Edness champions for the second straight year!
