Friends Of Ed
March 17, 2009
If you have been around Edhat for a bit, you must have realized that we don't have a ton of advertisers. We get plenty of action on our website. We send out over 36,000 emails and get well over 100,000 page views every week. Our advertising is very cheap - only $200/month which compares to $400/week for some print publications. And, we feel that we have a very loyal following. But, so far, local businesses have been slow to catch on.
Ed says it's no big deal. We have time. With newspapers going the way of the paperboy, pretty soon there will be no place to advertise but online.
Today on Edhat we salute two of our long-time advertisers who (in our opinion) recognize a good thing when they see it. Before we tell you who they are, we should -- in the spirit of March Edness -- tell you where they are.
The first picture shown yesterday was of a bunch of balloons. These are the same colors as the balloons still hanging above the intersection of Los Olivos and Santa Barbara Streets, but these balloons still have air in them and are located across town. These balloons are celebrating the opening of the new Giovanni's Pizza restaurant on the Mesa, at the corner of Cliff Drive and Meigs Road. We've been watching them them build it for the last year. Now, we can go inside and eat delicious pizza.
Giovanni's is a true amico of Ed - a regular advertiser since February 2006
Identifying the location of the balloons earned contestants 4 March Edness points.

The second picture shown yesterday was of a railing at the top of a house. The house is an old relic in downtown Santa Barbara, kitty corner from the Presidio. It's the house with the giant ivy question mark in front. The house is the home of Panino, one of the biggest and best local sandwich chains in town. Quoting from a previous Edhat,
"The old brick building with the live Google marker was once in the heart of Santa Barbara's Chinatown. In fact, in 1932 it was used as a headquarters for Chiang Kai-shek's Chinese Nationalist Party. In 1955, it was remodeled and turned commercial. Before becoming a place to buy little Italian sandwiches, it was a drive-thru liquor store and more recently, a print shop."
Panino is a real Edhat pal - an advertiser since January 2007
Identifying the location of the rooftop earned contestants 2 March Edness points.
