March Edness 2009

Property Of
March 16, 2009

The sign shown for Friday's March Edness picture says, "US Property, No Trespassing". When the dedicated staff of edhat.com first saw that picture, our instincts told us that the picture was taken in front of AIG headquarters, or possibly, Citibank. But, knowing that the geographic scope of the March Edness Contest is from Carpinteria to Solvang, we considered other possibilities.

Our next guess was that the picture was taken inside Ed's garage. If our memory serves us, there is a sign just like the one in the picture hanging next to Ed's collection of computer power cords and old AOL disks. But, to the best of our knowledge, Ed's house doesn't have barbed wire around it.

Our final guess was that the picture was taken at the U.S. Army Reserve Center, at the corner of State and Las Positas, across the street from Yanni's. That guess was correct. The Reserve Center uses the former hospital administration building of the old Hoff General Hospital, which once occupied the space that today is the golf course, MacKenzie Park, and the Reserve Center.

The Army Reserve is made up of part-time soldiers who help out the Army as needed. Currently, there are 9,000 Army reservists in Iraq and 1,400 in Afghanistan.

Identifying the location of the sign earned contestants one March Edness points.
