Celebrity Wedding Venues
updated: Aug 13, 2011, 9:30 AM

By the dedicated staff

Reality star Kim Kardashian's upcoming Montecito nuptials to basketball star Kris Humphries will be the Santa Barbara celebrity wedding of the summer. The black tie affair is planned for August 20th at an unknown location, and will surely have a star studded guest list.

Hosting fancy weddings is something Santa Barbara and Montecito have always been pretty good at - and some stars even choose venues that are accessible to us "real people" as well. More recently, Goleta's Bacara Resort has become a popular place for the rich and famous to get hitched.

Here's a look at the three most popular venues, what's special about each, some famous types who have wedded there, and ways you can check them out without winning the lottery first.

Four Seasons Biltmore

The skinny: Online gossip has it that most of Kardashian's guests booked their rooms at the Biltmore, the historic beachside hotel at the end of Olive Mill Lane in Montecito. (Celebrity gossip piece) Biltmore staff isn't saying whether the wedding might be held there, though. Owned by Beanie Baby mogul Ty Warner (he lives in a villa just down the street), the Biltmore offers the option of having your wedding on beautiful Butterfly Beach, then strolling back across the street for a reception, or being married on one of its lush lawns or gardens, which are surrounded by coastal plants and flowers and can have mountain or ocean views. The La Pacifica Terrace, with a straight line of sight to the sea, is a popular choice. We know the Kardashian sisters like hanging out in SB by the beach - they filmed one of their reality show segments while rollerblading along the Cabrillo bike path.

The Biltmore is a Santa Barbara Spanish style venue, with tile floors, floral carpets, and painted room numbers on white stucco walls. Rooms start at $335 a night if you book far in advance. It has a sprawling, high-ceilinged lobby that's great for people-watching, and a bar where Oprah reportedly favors the pomegranate martini (well, at least she did a few years ago). You could run into someone famous here on just about any given day. Across the street, the historic Coral Casino club property is accessible to Biltmore guests, and features a decadent oceanfront swimming pool.

Celebrity nuptials: Despite assertions that loads of celebrities have gotten married at the Biltmore, it sure is hard to find them online. Cory Hardict and Tia Mowry are the only confirmed couple we could come up with. If you know of others, share in the comments section and we'll add them to this list. It's probably worth noting that the Biltmore was featured as a wedding venue in the recent Ashton Kutcher/Natalie Portman comedy, "No Strings Attached." In a funny scene that only locals will notice, Portman's character goes speeding out of the driveway to drive back to LA - but she takes a left turn rather than a right.

Check it out: Bella Vista, one of the three Biltmore restaurants, is open to the general public and features a legendary Sunday brunch, regular themed buffet nights, and Italian/local-vore fare. Terrace seating gives you a fabulous view of Butterfly Beach and a little taste of a privileged life.

San Ysidro Ranch

The skinny: The exclusive and private San Ysidro Ranch, in the foothills of Montecito, is a romantic retreat with cottage-style accommodations. When Montecito resident Oprah hosts large get-togethers at her home, her guests often stay at SYR. The tree-lined drive up to the ranch is especially romantic when lit up at night. On property, secluded gardens are well-suited for small weddings. You can rent out all 41 rooms and have the property closed off just for you and your guests. During peak season, room rates start at $550 per night, midweek. The Ranch is also owned by Warner, and managed by Rosewood Resorts. See photos and descriptions of the wedding venues in their online brochure

Celebrity nuptials: Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie; Caleb Followill and Lily Aldridge; Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin; Natash Henstridge and Darius Campbell; Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley; Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier; John and Jackie Kennedy (honeymoon), Julia Roberts and Danny Moder (honeymoon); Mark Anthony and Jennifer Lopez (honeymoon); Sandra Bullock and Jesse James (ceremony in Solvang, wedding night at SYR).

Check it out: Have a cocktail at the Plow and Angel, SYR's "downscale" bar, which also has a full dinner menu. Yes, a drink will set you back an average of $20, but you might see some famous faces, and you'll get a taste of what the ranch is all about. Valet parking only, and don't even think about wearing shorts and flip flops. Dinner on the bar patio will run you at least $125 for two people. The Stonehouse, the marquee restaurant on the property, features a romantic outdoor fireplace.

Bacara Resort

The skinny: Yes, it's technically in Goleta, which is essentially Montecito's polar opposite. But the Bacara has created its own little world out on the very end of Hollister Avenue. The oceanfront resort has become very popular with stars wanting to do something new in Santa Barbara, and it caters primarily to luxury-seeking guests. With an expansive spa, opulent bar, and Vegas-style swimming pools, Bacara fits the "something new" category of that old wedding adage. The Bacara offers garden weddings for 50 to 800 of your nearest and dearest, and as we learned recently on Edhat, you can even bring in camels as accessories. (There was some speculation during this Arabian Nights-themed ceremony that it was Kim Kardashian's wedding, but of course that turned out not to be.)

Celebrity nuptials: Fergie and Josh Duhamel; Casandra Estevez and Casey Huffman; Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler; Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli (ceremony at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, reception at Bacara).

Check it out: There are four bars on property at the Bacara, as well as three restaurants, and they're all open to the public, as is the spa. You can also get pretty close to the property with a walk on the nearby local beach, which has been gussied up with a fancy bathhouse built by the resort. As one of the mitigations for its construction, Bacara was required to maintain the free beach access and provide parking for it, which is located off Hollister about 400 yards from the resort. But a proposal they have to build condominiums on the east part of their property, close to Haskell's Beach, has many locals very upset about the future.
