Nobody here has really good Asian food. It's all greased up, often to cover up old/rotting veggies. Go to Farmer's Market, buy fresh veggies, stop by an Asian market and get some condiments, and have fun experimenting!

Nobody does it better than Mandarin Palace in 5-Points! Without a doubt it is the best Chinese food in town. I think the same people own Empress Palace over by Las Positas and Modoc.

Well, not Chinese stir fry (but you didn't say Chinese), but Sojourner and Natural Cafe have a variety of good stir frys (fries?).

The elephant bar is absolutely one of the worst places in town to eat. Sojourner has a good stir fry and so does China Pavillion.

The Elephant Bar is OK. Their veggies are fresh...can't say that for a lot of the "mom and pop" places in town.

Take a wok and add cubes of fresh chicken. Fry in a little oil. Add sliced onions, zuccini, yellow squash, red/green peppers - and toss and stir. Add a jar of La Choy Sweet and Sour sauce (available at supermarkets) and some pineapple cubes of slices. Heat through. Place on top of cooked Uncle Bens long grain rice - and voila! Sweet and Sour chicken with stir fry veggies. Delish!

Funny how every restaurant referral thread has the post "try Codys". Do they even have stir-fry? BTW- China Pavillion is the best without a doubt..

lol... yeah, Cody's is *not* the first place I thought of when "stir-fry" was mentioned (nor was it the last time one of the owners/investors/staff/fans piped in...cool it!) Cody's is great for breakfast, bloody marys, black bean soup, or burgers though!

Actually the veggie are frozen at Elephant Bar. I got some still-frozen ones in a dish I ordered there once.

470P - Yes, they do have a very good chicken/vegetable stir fry. Not a shill, just a regular who enjoys their stir fry.

Dredge your chicken in corn starch and fry in hot oil ( use an oil that has a high smoke point), remove from pan. Add 2 sliced on the diagonal carrots, 1/2 julienned red bell pepper, bok choy, a hand full of snow peas and broccoli flowerettes, and cook until carrots are just tender but not mushy, remove all veggies from the oil. Add 1 t. minced garlic and 1 1/2 t. grated ginger and 2, sliced on the diagonal, scallions with 1 T. more oil, don't let it burn. Add a dash of salt and 1 t. sugar into the scallion mixture. Put the the chicken and veggies back into the pan with 1/2 can drained water chestnuts and 1/2 can drained baby corn. Drizzle with a little sesame oil and heat all of the ingredients on high heat. Serve with rice and soy sauce.
Be sure to have all ingredients ready to go as this cooks very fast.
You could throw in some sake at the sugar and salt stage.

If you can drive to Goleta, Ming Dynasty near KMart has a very good stir fry. You get to choose all your own ingredients and seasonings. Those of us who are regulars take 2 bowls to start with. Plus you get the buffet! I think the key is lots of Ginger!

Cody's just isn't good.

Last time went to Elephant bar for dinner to have chicken strips and sweet potato fries (only good things there). Ordered only to be told by the server that they were out of chicken strips! Instead received a nasty chicken sandwich that accompanied ten small fries. My husband ordered the lamb stew which was also inedible since they didn't heat it hot enough and it was just chewy globs of fat. One of worst meals ever!
