Horseshoe Crosswalk
September 27, 2009

Crosswalk
Every once in a while Edhat looks inland for a Where Is It for y'all to ponder as you mosey around town. Last Sunday was one of those times. The crosswalk made of horseshoes can be found in the bustling metropolis of downtown Santa Ynez. These particular parallel rows of used shoes are arranged in a random pattern -- a "horse-schach" kind of way. In the crosswalk, ninety-degrees to the left from where this picture was taken the shiny shoes spell out the word, "WHOA".

The dedicated staff of edhat.com could pretend to be the authority on how and why Valley people cross the road, but instead we will direct you to an article in the Santa Ynez Journal, where you can read the words straight from the horse's mouth. The Journal article will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about this crosswalk you probably never knew about before, and more. Many of the horseshoes on the street were once worn by famous horses.

Twenty-two Edhat subscribers had enough horse sense to know where the old shoes drop in the valley. The Edhat Dog was asked to choose the weekly t-shirt winner from the list of winners. At first she refused, saying it was just too hot to make important decisions like that. But after we promised her cheese and popcorn, she took a gander at the list, carefully considered the options, and chose Holazola as the winner.
