June 17, 2008 - Numbers In Lights
If you're looking for a public display of numbers, there is no better place in town to go than the Granada Garage. Lit up like centerfield at Dodger Stadium, the scoreboards at the two entrances show up-to-the-minute estimates of the number of spaces available on each of the six parking levels. As many of us know, during normal operation the only level that gets filled up is the ground floor. And as many of us also know, the fact that the scoreboard says zero doesn't always mean that there's no space at the inn.
Yesterday, the dedicated staff of edhat.com went to the Granada Garage at 2 o'clock sharp to take a picture of the numbers in lights. As you can see from the picture, the lucky lottery numbers yesterday were 86, 84, 11, 2, 49, and 95. If you add them all up and divide by one, you can calculate that there were a total of 327 spots without cars - 183 above ground, and 144 below.
As they say in the Rime of the Ancient SUV, "Spaces, spaces everywhere but I can't afford a drop of gas."
Most of the contestants in the contest yesterday guessed way below ground. The median guess was 82. Parsons, with a guess of 314.159 was the closest guesser. Parsons wins a $75 gift certificate to Stateside Restaurant in La Arcada. Parsons – you can try to park by the Library, but if you want to be sure of getting a spot, you know where to go.
