June 9, 2008 - Tail Counters
On Dog Day Saturday, all of the members of the dedicated staff of edhat.com found themselves out of counting distance of the Dog Parade down State Street. And since counting the dogs at this world famous parade is one of the cornerstones of Edhat enumeration, we asked our subscribers to pitch in and tally the tails for us. Luckily for Ed and the gang, two fine, upstanding citizens of Santa Barbara stepped up to the dog dish, and counted in our place.
Here are their Parade Reports from the Street:
"So you were certainly correct - this was the major leagues of counting! I had fun though, and did my best at accuracy. My final tally was 791. I was positioned at the corner of Ortega and State. The weather was perfect, and this year's Grand Marshall (Dog Whisperer Ceasar Millan) caused quite the stir. Virtually every child and housewife present felt compelled to run out to him for a hug/photo-op/autograph, resulting in a stuttery flow (and thus more difficult counting! ;)"

"Hi...what a fun event that was!! I must admit that the parade got so backed up at times, that it was rather difficult to count the dogs. So...I may have added a few and missed a few...oh well. I got 808 dogs that marched down State St. this morning! I stood two blocks down from de la Guerra. Dogs looked energetic and happy... but wonder how they felt as they neared Cabrillo?"

So there you go, two counts (791 and 808) … and both of them pretty close to each other. We used the average of these two numbers for our count-chart and to award the Daily Prize. SBkrista was with a guess of 808 had the closest guess. Krista wins an Edhat t-shirt, pickupable at Highlights Salon on Alamar and de la Vina.
Dan Siebert helped us out on Saturday by taking picures. Ed say, Check 'em out!
