May 29, 2007 - No Frog Weekend
Last weekend, there were three full days chock (chalk) full of al fresco artwork at the Mission. It was the I Madonnari Festival - one of the things that make each Memorial Day Weekend memorable. Every year since Edhat has been around, the dedicated staff of edhat.com has gone to the Mission to inspect the chalk paintings for certain key elements and tally them up with chalk marks on a clipboard.
Ed is particularly drawn to projects like this. By repeating the same process every year, it is easy to get a big picture view of current trends and styles. Read last year's story to get the low-down on the year-by-year progression.
Well, now that we've said that, we have to report that we found roughly the same elements in this year's pictures as last. The most prevalent elements were birds, followed by sea animals, followed by cats. The biggest change this year was that there were very few horses. Frogs and bicycles, also-rans in year's past were completely absent this year. The only frog we saw was a plastic one that someone placed on top of a painting.
Also, an element not our list - planet Earth - was very popular. It seems that the green movement has hit the pavement (running).
Check out our 2007 I Madonnari picture gallery for more colorful details.
The only Edhat subscriber who came up with the Bird, Fish, Cat trifecta was Edda Hatte, who just happens to be the Edhat Dog's favorite subscriber. The Dog awards Edda one free walk on the beach (and another t-shirt if she wants one).
