Pool Work
updated: Aug 08, 2011, 1:08 PM
Can anyone recommend a local company that can refinish a pool in fiberglass. Friends that sit on the steps of pool and hot tub are complaining of itchy pain. Thanks this info is much needed for my parents.

We used Aqua Creations out of Ventura. They do a lot of work up here in SB. They did a nice job and were easy to work with.

Aqua Creations did a pool resurfacing for us on our 25-year-old fiberglass pool that developed several leaks. They did a good job and weren't over bid. It was about $7K for about a 15'x30' pool. Perhaps if you only need the seating places done it would be less. Check the water chemicals fully, though, first. There are ways that can be off that would make people itch. We had Brent Boone's company do a total replacement on our pool cover, and they did a good job. No surprises. I don't recall if we got a bid from J&B on the resurfacing.

I wonder how much trouble it would be to go back to plaster if you have a cement pool that has been fiber-glassed? I like a 1/2 inch layer of plaster over gunite much better myself. (Do other pool techs agree?) I had trouble properly maintaining a black plaster pool that was redone with white fiberglass and lost the service account.

I am a general contractor, and have done many pool remodels, using several pool subcontractors. I do not recomend fiberglass coating over a gunite and plaster pool, as it is impossible to get the two dissimilar materials(fiberglass and cement) to properly bond, and after a few years you will have maintenance issues. Try getting a bid for removing the plaster and or fiberglass topcoat, down to the gunnite, and replastering and installing new waterline tile. I suggest calling Bob at Summit Pools 482-4088

@922 Aqua Creations took our plaster off/out down to the gunite in 1995. We have had far less maintenance issues since going fiberglass. A lot less chemical usage than with the old plaster surface... We are very pleased with the fiberglass.
