Swedish Meatballs
updated: Aug 01, 2011, 12:02 PM
So, my husband had a hankering for Swedish meatballs this weekend and we were in the San Fernando Valley for other reasons and since we were in the area, went to look up one of his favorite haunts, a smorgasbord called, "A Taste of Scandinavia." Unfortunately, it had gone out of business since the last time he had eaten there.
Now he really wants some good Swedish meatballs and I can't find another smorgasbord closer than Solvang! Anybody have any suggestions?

Brummis German restaurant on upper State serves Fleischklopse, which is like a sauerbraten meatball made with beef and pork. Very close to Swedish meatballs.

It's not in SB, but the Red Viking in Solvang has delicious Swedish/Danish meatballs, just like they used to feature locally at the Sweden House, and later, the Skandi Buffet.

The best köttbulle (Sedish Meatballs) in Southern California are at Ikea. They even get the gravy right.

Parking at any Ikea store is a nightmare. I've been once - never ever again.

I'm the original OP, and I guess I've got a trip to Solvang in my future! I think we need a place in town that serves Swedish/Danish meatballs and pierogi!!

Maybe we need to put it in the Goleta Marketplace? Who wants to open a business?

FYI, I checked out the online menu for Andersen's restaurant downtown and they didn't list Swedish meatballs :(
