Assistance League of Santa Barbara® is a nonprofit all volunteer organization that develops and implements philanthropic programs to benefit children and adults in Santa Barbara County.
Our 409 members (including Las Aletas and Assisteens®) volunteered forty-eight thousand three hundred eighty-seven (48,387 ) hours, raised more than seven hundred twenty three thousand ($723,000) dollars and served over thirteen thousand six hundred and fifteen (13,615) people through our thirteen philanthropic programs last year.
Highlights of three of our thirteen Philanthropic Programs include:
Hillside House: Since 1948 Assistance League has helped support this residential home for 59 individuals with developmental disabilities or brain injuries. Assistance League volunteers have raised more than one million three hundred thousand dollars ($1,300,000) for the purchase of supplies and equipment. Volunteers spend hours serving as secret pals, celebrating birthdays and holidays, bringing in entertainment and playing bingo. Last year, Assistance League contributed $102,890 dollars to Hillside House.
Operation School Bell: Since 1969 Assistance League volunteers have clothed more than 27,000 Santa Barbara area school children from kindergarten through sixth grade. Children who have been identified by the area schools are provided with school clothing (uniforms for uniform schools), books, backpacks, school supplies and health kits. Last year Operation School Bell provided new school clothing to approximately 1,680 students.

Friendship Luncheons: Since 1980, Assistance League has been hosting luncheons for seniors in the community, and since that time they have served over 12,000 seniors. Six times each year senior guests are invited to the Chapter House to enjoy a hot home cooked meal. Entertainment is often times provided.
Last year 500 seniors participated in this program.
Other Philanthropic Programs include:
Bear Hugs, Family Learning Program, Fostering Friends, Fun in the Sun, Santa Barbara Smiles, Teen School Bell, Teen School Bell Prom Boutique, Little Cottage & Very Improved Performers & Kids on the Block.
Thrift Shop

The major source of income for Assistance League's programs is our Thrift Shop.
Last year, the News Press awarded our Thrift Shop the Reader's Choice Award for "best" Thrift Shop. Donations to the Thrift Shop are tax deductible and accepted during shop hours. The Thrift shop is entirely staffed by Assistance League Volunteers.
Open: Mondays & Wednesdays: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. & Saturdays 10 a.m. -1 p.m.
The Thrift Shop is located at 1259 Veronica Springs Road, Santa Barbara.
