Cooking Class
updated: Jul 19, 2011, 6:37 AM
Does anyone know of a local cooking class/lesson? I am looking to boost my cooking skills and meet other people who enjoy cooking. There are a lot of links on the web after doing a Google search, but they seem outdated. Thanks!

SB Adult Ed usually has lots of options. Not sure how they'll be affected by budget crisis.

I second the SBCC Adult Ed/Continuing Education program. They have some great cooks, and offer courses spanning many different regions. The prices are a bit higher than they used to be, but for what you get, it still seems reasonable.Their website is here (though no cooking classes are shown currently as they aren't doing them this summer): sbcc.edu/ce/

I believe Santa Barbara Premiere Catering on West Haley offers cooking classes. They had a Groupon for it not long ago.

Williams-Sonoma in La Cumbre Plaza offers classes from time to time as does Il Fustino, the olive oil and vinegar store in San Roque Plaza. It might be worth calling them both to find out what they are planning in the near future. I think the Williams-Sonoma classes are free, but I'm not sure about the Il Fustino ones.

I highly recommend Adult Ed cooking classes. There are a variety of classes offered, something for everyone. My favorite was Paule McPherson, but I don't know if she's still teaching. She's English and wonderful.

Pascale Beale is a fantastic cook, teacher and all-around wonderful person. Her classes are small and very hands-on. http://www.mckcuisine.com/classes.htm

The Goodland Kitchen on South Magnolia in Old Town Goleta is offering a series of specialty classes this summer. Techniques and local ingredients, fun folks in a great kitchen.

I've taken some of the Adult Ed classes - they're good, but be aware that the same people get up and do the dishes after each class and the same people sit, and sit, and sit.....

The Wake Center used to have cooking classes - but they tore out the kitchen (Wolf Ranges just disappeared)....and put in an office for non-English speakers. Now they have cake decorating in the art room (very sanitary)???? Not a good choice there.
