I use OK Storage, which is behind and to the left of Cal Taco at 7330 Hollister. For their smallest unit (5x10) they charge $75/mo, and if you pay for 12 months you get one month free. I like them because they have 24 hour access, and their rates are cheaper than just about everyone else. (805) 968-0218

I use Public Storage off of glen annie on Hollister. I have a 10x10 and with all the fees I pay about $130. The first month was only $1 and I only plan on having storage for 3 months, so this worked out the best.

Goleta Valley Mini Storage! The tie-breaker: they offered FREE storage to anyone evacuated during the fires. Couldn't have been nicer about it. Second 358--they're very clean and secure. Thanks for stepping in to help your neighbors, GVMS. You guys are the BEST!

Goleta Valley Mini Storage has my vote. I've stored my things there for 3 years. The place is immaculate and secure, plus they are very nice people. 5380 Overpass Road, off Patterson.

The problem I have with Goleta Valley Mini Storage and most other places is that you can only get into your storage bin when they are open. If you need something after 7pm you are out of luck.

@429P -- well, yes that could be an issue but if you plan ahead, there's not really that much that you might need from a storage place after 7:00 p.m. I don't keep my passport there, for example ...

I worked at a local moving company that offered storage, a majority of the items were just not worth storing, if you can replace it easily, garage sale it. Don't throw your money away by paying long term storage: $130 x12 = $1560 you can buy a lot of very good stuff for $1500 bucks I am not talking about a couple of months of storage for whatever reason, but when 3 months becomes longer dump the excess.

Another vote for Patterson storage, preferrably the building on Calle Real behind Twin Cups. Though we have friends who had their storage unit on Patterson next to the freeway and they seemed happy.

Patterson Storage, Patterson @ 101. Used them for 10 years without incident. A clean, well-lit storage facility for your stuff.
