Child Care
updated: Jul 05, 2011, 3:21 PM
Friends with a toddler will be visiting Santa Barbara in August and need
advice on quality child care. This would be for both in home babysitting
(for dinners out) but also daytime childcare in a facility preferably
downtown or Montecito.

I have had really good luck with Care.com and I also have friends that have used this site. It would be worth checking out because they could have some people interviewed and lined up before they come. There are a lot of local college and high school students that use it now to post their baby sitting services and it includes information on them. Great site!

I have used Mummy's Day Off for my four children for 5 years now. Their sitters are ALWAYS on time and are local college students who drive. I think once in five years we had someone who's personality clashed with our family, and Angela and Paolo were very supportive. They also guarantee you will have someone there, even when you call the day before! Highly recommended. 805-570-6171.

Bring your own familiar person. Why upset your child with an unfamiliar place AND a stranger? Better still, include your child in your activities. Santa Barbara is a top-notch family friendly place and you can adjust your activities to please both the adults and the toddler. We went to Europe once years ago with a three year old and doors opened for us because we had a small child with us. We did a lot of sight-seeing with a stroller and had a great time. We never missed going into bars. Your sitter can watch the child while you take a nap on the beach, or whatever. No angst for the little one, as she can see you are right there!

Try the Learning Den. They do short-stay preschool all summer long.

Try "The Little Guests". My daughter works with them and they're pretty accommodating with whatever your needs are. 805-688-1812
