Coin Dealer
updated: Jul 04, 2011, 8:38 PM
My late father loved to save old silver quarters, dimes, and half dollars
which I learned are quite valuable as melt-down. I have several rolls, and
would like to know a dealer I could sell them to, who would be reputable,
fair, and give me a good value despite my ignorance of coin collecting.
Thank you.

Seedlady, P.S. But I am by no means an expert so feel free to have it appraised, Gillio's does that.

@Purplerider: I'd like to find out my options, learn more about the current market, and then decide whether or not to sell. I'm hoping a good dealer might educate me a little bit. Thanks for the referral. @703P: In reading a bit about this online, I learned it's common for "coin roll hunters" to search through half dollars for treasure.

I also have some silver dollars. Silver has gone up and down. Last I heard was to 'hold' until it does back up a again! Good luck!

Paul Brombal is very trustworthy - had the same finding as OP - rolls of silver dimes and took them to Brombal's. They are good people to do business with.

I'm sure that is just one of the favors you dad did for you! Silver has dropped quite a bit in value these past two months, from almost $50 to around $35 oz. Do your homework on Google, where you can find today's value of the silver in those old dimes, quarters, halves and silver dollars. Some might be worth more because of better dates, mint marks and condition. The library will have good reference books to help you determine which dates and mint marks are rarer. Unless you need the $$ now you might want to wait for silver go to up again, but like the stock market, SB real estate, etc. you never know when/how long....and have fun: if only those coins could talk, imagine the stories they could tell about where they've been and what they've been used to pay for!

I SOLD & STUDIED COINS (GOLD & SILVER)...WARNING: Before you take them anywhere, go online & do 2 things. Learn where the mint mark is & the date, study to how grade that particular coin if it is in fact a "key date". Key dates as well as excel. cond. bring much more than just the fact that they are 90% silver. Good luck as their are many more thieves out there than honest business people.
