Jewel Resetting
updated: Jul 01, 2011, 3:07 PM

I have several diamonds that I would like to have re-set into an engagement ring, any recommendations of a quality, yet not overpriced jeweler in town that provides this service. I'm clueless!!

My wife and I used the Gem Shop at 3417 State three years ago. We were happy with their prices and they did beautiful work for her.

Patco patco patco patco patco.

They'll replace, revise, do it from scratch, repair . . . amazing and, at least as of a couple years ago, very nicely priced.

Patco did my wife's wedding band and turned some ruined heirloom jewelry into something else, but kept the stones and the spirit of her grandmother.

Pat at Patco does some wonderful design work. I have several of his work and after years they are still amazing pieces, timeless. He also has some beautiful estate pieces. His prices are fair. I would visit both reccomendations and view their designs. Go for the best quality mental that you can afford.

Pat @ Patco is a great guy. He helped Janice the adult ed jewelry teacher put together a great lab when she retired from Santa Barbara High School. We have worked with him for years. He has wax castings in the back, but can design what you want.

All I wanted was a new sliver "S" clip for my heavy silver Nepalese necklace. I took it to The Jewelry Mart and told them I needed it back within a couple of weeks. They had no intention of dealing with it. I kept checking with them and was told is wasn't ready. After two weeks I took it back. I went in to Patco and they gave me the clip for free, on the spot! That was many years ago but I'm amazed they manage to stay in business.

My vote is for Calla Gold. She turned my grandmother's engagement ring and several family diamonds of different sizes into a beautiful new engagement and wedding band for me, in the exact design I was envisioning. I could not be happier with the work she did for me!

OMG I always go to POSH in Loreto Plaza by Gelson's and Chaucer's . They've done all my mother's work for over 20 years. I took my graduation watch there, and my 16th birthday diamond earrings when I wanted to change them from white gold to yellow gold. They've got my vote and my mother's and sister's too. Very fair prices and really knowledgeable. The man in there is Dutch, from Holland, so he knows all the European techniques and the famous European watch brands.
