Super Cucas makes a legit and reasonably priced one. Rose Cafe is pretty solid as well.

I've been hunting this dish for years, and my best picks, both on Milpas: El Bajio serves a reasonable and tasty Huevos Rancheros. If you like a more robust style, Mi Buen Gusto serves an excellent Huevos Rancheros topped with Chile Colorado for the Ranchero sauce. Also very reasonable.

Super Cucas. I don't know about the Mesa and Micheltorena locations, but the IV Super Cucas has great huevos.

Mesa Cafe... Pretty much any restaurant in SB is serving HR, and 99% of the cooks in SB are Mexican, so they are all authentic !

Greatly overlooked in this community, but Romanti Ezra (think 'oh that's where I ate after a night at Wildcat') on Chapala has incredible Huevos Rancheros in addition to what I consider the best tacos in town (before 9pm since they hand make their tortillas; late night offerings are not handmade). Diamond in the rough is an understatement...

I can't say I ever had bad Huevos Rancheros. I only order this when I'm starving since it's usually a rather large meal. It's hard to mess up a couple of eggs and beans... From iHop to Joe's to Harry's... it's all good!

Good, fast and cheap Heat up a cast iron pan with a little oil. Cook up a few corn tortillas until between crispy and limp. Heat up some salsa from the Santa Cruz market or leftover chili verde or colorado if that is sitting arround Fry 2 eggs over easy. Put the tortillas on a plate followed by the salsa/chili/whatever. Crumble some queso fresco cheese and pop under the broiler for a few minutes. Good with a can of Sun Vista pintos. A option when you really need some huevos Rancheros but don't want to get out of you robe.

Taco Roco in Buellton! I drive there once a week for their Huevos Rancheros. Plus, it's cheap [if you don't count the gas! ha ha].

*sigh* pierre lafond downtown USED to make the best huevos EVER. geez, we used to get them every single sunday. but some super genious apparently decided to take them off the menu, now they only have fancy bougie foods like lobster omlets and ricotta "hotcakes" (upscale code for pancakes?!) on the menu ... such a bummer! bring back the heuvos!!!!!!!!!

@Mesarats: Well, I guess I don't know what "Huevos Rancheros" is. I always thought eggs scrambled with chorizo is called "Huevos Rancheros." I wouldn't be surprised to learn that all these restaurants, herein mentioned, prepare this dish their own way, all different!!!
Am I right? Yes? No?
