Glad to hear someone is interested in fixing something. I haven't seen a TV repair person in years. I hope they still exist!

Once you get the quote, you'll realize that it's cheaper to buy a new TV.

Remember the self serve kiosks for "tube" replacements at the drug stores ?

Whats wrong with the TV? What kind is it? I had my Samsung flat screen go out on me. The nearest place that repaired them was in Ventura, with a minimun charge of $350. Turns out, it was 2 small capacitors, $1.10 each. Had someone I knew with a soldering gun, solder them into place. Good as new.

190 - Did you pay the $350 to get the TV diagnosed? If not, how did you determine all you needed were the two $1.10 capacitors?

(190 here) Absolutely not! Lol. After I heard the outrageous fee (which is bare minimum charge, reguardless of the work done), I Googled my problem, and found out that plenty others had the same symptoms my TV was having. It would take upwards of 10 min just to turn on, and when it did, the picture would be out or very pixelated. I worked up the guts to take the back of my TV off, and find the "bubbled" capacitors that needed replacing. Mind you, all this was done because the warranty had expired and/or I used it already.

Pretty sad nowadays. Everything is made to throw out and just buy another.

The problem of capacitors in the power supply often isn't unusual these days. There seem to be problems in off shore manufacturing of them frequently these days. Good advice to Google that manufacturer and see what appears. I do recall seeing similar complaints.

If you install flux capacitors, you can go back in time and actually find a TV repairman.

In 1964 when I came to Santa Barbara there were 32 TV Repair shops including Television City. Now in 2013 there is one TV Repair shop and it is Television City. I wonder why that is. Could it be that all the rest lost interest in that kind of business? Could it be that they retired from the business or passed away or moved away? Could it be that they didn't keep up-to-date with technology? Could it be that their customers put them out of business? It would seem to me that all these things are true. Santa Barbara is lucky to still have Television City around as they have built up the premier Television and Audio Repair Service in the Tri-Counties. Folks bring equipment to their well-equipped shop on Mountain Drive from hundreds of miles away. When the sets leave Television City they play like new again and receive a guarantee that no one can touch. If the equipment ever does the exact same thing, they'll fix it again for nothing. Wow! Call them at 805-565-5577.
