Jill and her Humboldt Lily
updated: Jun 13, 2011, 8:31 PM

By David Powdrell

We've got a close friend, Jill, who's goo-goo about the Humboldt Lily.

In her early 40's, she called yesterday with the enthusiasm of a child going to Disneyland. "The Humboldt Lily!! You've got to see the Humboldt Lily!!!

She rounded up her husband Marty, my wife and me for a Jesusita Trail hike today, primarily to look for the lilies, which had been decimated during the February, 2010 Jesusita Fire.

Like an Easter egg hunt gone awry, though, Jill knew exactly where to find every stand of the Humboldt Lily. And there were lots and lots of them, tucked behind nooks and crannies all along the trail.

Excitedly, Jill made sure that everyone else on the trail knew to look for the Humboldt Lily, too. "There are 2 six foot stands about 40 paces on your left."

The lilies are in peak show condition for only a few more weeks. See them if you can.

Or call Jill. She'll give you a ride, a tour and will probably toss in a free coffee. She's that cool.
