Students Talk Science
updated: Jun 09, 2011, 4:55 PM

By Robert Bernstein

The Science and Engineering Council of Santa Barbara brings speakers on the cutting edge of science and technology.

Today, the featured speakers were the students of Dos Pueblos High School Engineering Academy! And what an amazing group of innovators!

Their faculty sponsor Amir Abo-Shaeer has won numerous awards, including a prestigious MacArthur Foundation Fellowship! With his help and the help of eight mentors, these students do real engineering design. They take a robotics concept from start to finished product in just six weeks!

And the product is quite complex, competing with 2,000 other contestants to manipulate objects on a playing field quickly, accurately and safely.

Here are my photos from the presentation and demonstration, including a video clip of the robot in action!

Here is more information about the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy!
