Website Builder
updated: Jun 07, 2011, 8:59 AM

I need to build a website and I am looking for recommendations on a easy to use website builder with web 3.0 templates. Does anyone have any personal recommendations or who I should stay away from?

Perhaps you mean web 2.0? Web 3.0 is perhaps "the next big thing" wikipedia

It depends on what your website will be for, who it's aimed at, how much time - or money - you want to put into it. Easy to use is Wordpress.com, using either its free site or your own hosted site and their software. As for staying away, again, it depends on how much time you want to put into it; if it's little, you probably should stay away from Dreamweaver.

You can try www dot blogger dot com. From there, you create an account. I believe it has to be a google account. If you already have a gmail (google email) account, you should be able to use that.

Then you can get a blog website with:

yourname dot blogspot dot com.

[Replace the dot's with . Replace yourname with whatever you want to name your website, with the exception that you can't use a name that's already in use.]

There's also a place called Live Journal.

Do you intend to host a blog, do you want to make money off of it, or what? BlogSpot is setup to add ads to your website/blog if you want. I think you have to use paypal to receive any income from the ads, but I could be wrong.

Matter of fact, I think Google and Paypal are having some disagreements with each other right now due to Google setting up it's own version of Paypal.

You can also host it with whomever you get your internet access from.

But anyway, it depends upon what you want to do. Because if you want to blog, there's already cool websites setup to make blogging pretty easy to setup. If you want to host your pictures, you can do that easily at
www dot flickr dot com
and other sites.

I'm sure there's commerce websites where you can set things up to sell stuff. Like if you have special mugs you make, or t-shirts, etc.

You can start from scratch yourself, but so many other places have already invented the wheel. Or at least created templates for enough different kinds of wheels that it doesn't make sense to use some other tool that requires you start from scratch.

Another vote for WordPress... it's evolved into a wonderfully straightforward CMS (content management system) that you can find inexpensive hosting for and manage without too much technical know-how. Good luck!

And yes, it's Web 2.0... ;-)

Great referral question EdHat,

Weebly not so easy to use, they look fancy but difficult to navigate, they will of course assist you for your $$$.

I am going to look into wordpress and dotbloggerdotcom myself, thanks for the help cyber people.
