Prices depend on condition of finish. If badly oxidized, a car needs extra work, so ball park quoting $$ would be pointless. Most places will give you an estimate upon seeing the vehicle. A full wash, wax and detail is not cheap. Could be $200, unless car is very well-maintained. Trucks and large SUV's always extra. Get references from regular customers.

Sierra's Auto Mobile Detailing is always cleaning cars on the street by my work. A few people here have hired him and say he does a GREAT job - really cheap too. I think its only about $20-30 for a full detail believe it or not!

Not to be a buzz kill, but isn't washing cars on the street illegal in Santa Barbara? The water, soap, chemicals etc wash into the drains, creek and ocean - that is why going to a car wash with proper drainage and water recycling is the green thing to do.

VIRAGO, you're right - commercial car washing on the street allowing water to reach the storm drain is a violation of the Municipal Code. Check the Creeks Division's website for a list of Certified Mobile Washers who contain their wash water and dispose of it properly.

I'm looking for a real detailer. Not one of these mobile car wash "detailers" but a craftsperson who can properly use a Porter Cable to get out swirls without destroying the clear coat, and who uses only top materials (like Menzerna, Wurth, Einszett, Wolfgang, etc.) Somebody who knows how to clay a car and does everything by hand, and not with some spray machine. Somebody who uses quality (and fresh/clean) microfiber towels, and not old (dirty) cloths like they use at car washes. I want the real $250+ kind of detailing that is more about paint protection/restoration and not just for a cursory shine to the car. A real detailer who has experience in concours detailing. Anybody know of one in Santa Barbara? The closest I could find was down near LA in Northridge.

I appreciate the kind words from you EdHaters out there. Having known Andrew Evans for years, I can say that he is also very qualified to do the work. Both he and I have spent a lot of money on training and equipment, not just "street" experience. I am certified by two separate detailing training facilities in the US and was selected as a team member to detail Air Force One. I only have 1000 characters here...I have cut this down five times. :) If you have questions about the Clean Water Act, legal washing in SB, proper washing chemicals/supplies, etc. Just get in touch with me. I am always training customers to care for their cars. With today's chemicals and toweling, you can do this yourself! If you want to see some other very high-end detailers.... superiorshine detailing innovativedetailing If you have questions, just ask Evan or myself. Best in detailing!

If someone damaged the clearcoat with Porter Cable, I would love to see that in person. Those machines are fine for applying sealants, but do not correct paint. You need a rotary, 4-ply wool, and way to many rpms to damage clear--in most situations. My friend tests for Meguiars and even using these extreme measures, sometimes has trouble burning the clear. Keep the paint clean, do not allow hard water to etch, remove bird droppings ASAP, and you should be fine. Most frustrating for me: New customers paid $$$ to have dried wax left in their jams and door edges, swirls induced by improper polishing methods (dirty foam pads, too much speed, or wrong product), or petroleum based tire dressing that left marks on fender wells and makes a super "fake" wet look. Ugh! Rob Regan TowelPros PS- I referred to Andrew Evans as Evan in the previous post. Sorry.

I use Terry Howell. Clay bar wax...100% by hand. Primo interior detailing. He is meticulous. And he is not too expensive. Tell him "The Ripper" sent you and he might give you a good discount, as well.
