I enjoyed watching the hill climb. Park in outside the town of Los Olivos and walk up the hill. Go early to stake out a good spot. Anywhere along the hill is fun to watch! There are lots of bikes to watch before the real race so it's not too boring to go early and wait. Bring your own food and water because there's nothing available on the hill. Let's just hope it doesn't SNOW anymore! (Stage 1 was scheduled on Sunday in Tahoe area and was cancelled due to fresh snow on the road, in May!)

I haven't seen it in person but I watched it on cable tv, and 736P said what I saw. That small hill offers great views since the riders have to slow down. And please wear a costume!! It makes for good television.

I like getting a spot near the start house. You can see the riders warm up & mill about. Also, there is a little bit about each rider on the PA system right before they send each rider.

I like hanging around the start are and walking to the finish area. It gets pretty exciting late in the day when the leaders are on the course.

If you get hungry, the best place to eat is the incredible counter at New Frontiers, located on the northwest corner of Hwy 246 and Alamo Pintado Road.

For all the latest info on road/traffic re-routes, bike valet, free shuttle from Buellton, site footprints, timing, please visit the local website tourofcalifornia-solvang dot com. The best place to watch is downtown Solvang--the starting gate and the finish line are only one block apart. The amateurs start at 10:30am, the Women's Invitational starts at 11:30am and the pro-men start at 12:30pm. Watch the starts, then walk thru the FREE Lifestyle Festival in Solvang Park and get free stuff; then head to the Finish Line on Copenhagen Drive. Another great spot downtown is Alisal Road hill--it is deceptively steep and you can see the riders really going for it as they ascend. Have fun and come early!
