My business computer got a virus. Can anyone recommend a local, good and honest computer virus tech? Thank you!

Yes. I always use Scott Christopher at Mr. Pink Computer Shrink. He is the best. The business is a small, local mom and pop operation. The fees are resonable. They always have to best support you can get in town. Check out their website.

I'd call TechEase, except I always pronounce it Teh Cheese and then can't call because I'm laughing too much. Seriously if a virus got through your firewall and your user policies weren't stringent enough to forbid virus vectors, you probably should just write it off, format the drive and install OSX.

Latitude 34 Technologies, http://www.l34tech.com/. The Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce named the president, Paul Avolio, Entepreneur of the Year. They offer a free 90-minute consultation.

I also like Latitude 34 in Old Town Goleta. They are super-nice, customer oriented, and know what they're doing and aren't as expensive as others in town.

You could also use an operating system that doesn't have virus vulnerability as a feature. You might like an Apple. Or load Ubuntu (Linux) on your virus infested Microsoft computer. Practice safe computing. Microsoft Windows is unsafe computing.

I used to be an IT pro, and I'm impressed by the attitude and customer service orientation of Latitude 34 in Old Town Goleta. Paul is a class act - competent, modest, friendly, helpful.

If you have some technical savvy try going to www.bleepingcomputer.com and search for your symptoms. Its not unreasonable to fix your own issues. The places listed above charge as much as $150/hr and some percentage the time they look up the fixes on sites like bleepingcomputer or tomshardware. Hopefully you have a backup solution in place. I am always amazed at how many individuals and businesses don't have any form of backup. A $79 external drive from Costco can be priceless when your primary HD crashes. Good luck.

JULIAN, clearly you know nothing about computers. There is no such thing as a "virus-unvulnerable" operating system.

171315: Well, Julian didn't say "virus-unvulnerable," did he? He said "doesn't have virus vulnerability as a feature." Big difference (and Julian even uses good English). I've been using Apple computers since 1984 and have never caught a virus. No, they're certainly not invulnerable, but they are, for several reasons, unlikely to be infected. For further info, read some of the literature, available online, about Mac versus PC virus problems.

If it runs on windows you can download their free antivirus that can find and remove known viruses. Just go to their website, or download it through Windows Update.
