Green Waste Recycler
updated: May 05, 2011, 3:29 PM
Greenwaste recyclers?? I am looking to get rid of large amounts of green waste. I
know that our local trash collection company will take it, but their politics and
prices have kept me from working with them. Any suggestions? Are there other
companies around that will accept greenwaste? Anyone that would actually pay me
for it? The product is a majority water (something like 80%).
Any and all suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks all edhat readers.
Cheers

Are you in Goleta? The new Marborg contract that takes effect July 1 is supposed to allow for unlimited greenwaste hauling. Not sure what "unlimited" really means if you are talking about a really large amount.

Unlimited green waste hauling is what Marborg does in our neighborhood. It sounds like you want to be paid for your waste however. They don't pay us for our residential trash & recycling :)

Residential contract allows for an annual large pickup. Or get a tree company to mulch it. Wait 9 months and you'll have excellent compost.

Yet another reason why waste hauling needs to be competitive. With the Marborg Monopoly just how long will "unlimited" really last with no alternatives under a monopoly?

I don't think anyone is going to pay you for greenwaste, especially if it's 80% water.... Is it cactus? Marborg doesn't take large amounts of cacti or succulents, yucca, agaves, palm leaves, etc. as part of the greenwaste recycling program. I think they say no more than 20% in a cart can be those kinds of plant material. They gum up the chipper blades, ruin the chippers. Those wet and fibrous plants are hard to get rid of in quantity because they aren't mulchable. You can rent a big roll-off dumpster from Marborg or Allied Waste. Marborg charges $140 plus $3/day. Then load it up, and they'll take it to the dump. You pay the dump fees, too, though. Not cheap, especially for heavy plants full of water. If it's regulary woody plant material or grasses, etc, you would only pay the greenwaste rate at the dump, but if it's succulents, yuccas, palm, etc, you will end up paying the mixed rate, about $70/ton. Sorry, no easy answers.
