Temporary Waterer
updated: Apr 29, 2011, 7:00 AM
I am thinking about going on vacation for two weeks this summer and am interested
in someone, reliable to stop by and water my plants and small vegetable patches.
Probably don't need a gardening service. Suggestions?

That's what neighbors are for. You can also call a landscape company. I'm sure they can do this for you.

You can spend how many dollars on a vacation, but you probably don't need (that is don't want to pay for) a gardening service?

Why ? UHH maybe because someone wants to help you out but not have to drive up to Painted Cave.

Depending on when you are gone, I could come by and do it if I'm available. I'm an experienced local gardener for over 15 years. Please ask EdHat for my email.

Thanks, DIRTGIRL, for your kind reply!! I'll make a note of it so that when I know I'll contact you to see if you have the time. (As for the others: I didn't know gardening services would do short term stuff --- I do all my own gardening/weeding/pruning; as for the "many dollars," this will be a cheap camping trip, if I go at all; and, finally, neighbors in my part of town are either not "neighborly" or, the rest, have only cement and lawns - except one who is willing but has not been plant watering reliable: one sometimes does get what one pays for, although I do her plants when she's away. :) ) I did think it would be something others might have interests in as well, since much of Santa Barbara is simply not someplace where you invite, that is, where you give your neighbors free rein to your property.

I know someone who might do this for you. I use her as a petsitter and she is extremely reliable and diligent. If you're interested in knowing more, please ask Edhat for my email contact information.

Reason I asked *where* is that Ed put this on the SLO edition, too, with no mention of location. Which matters! The pet sitter idea is effective, but you might check with your local independent nursery, too. I always worked little odd gardening jobs like this when I was in retail. Loved it--seeing my customers' gardens.

Thanks, SEEDLADY! I didn't know there was cross-posting to the other edhats. Good point about the retail nurseries. If DIRTGIRL doesn't have the time I'll check, assuming I go. I have casually checked bulletin boards - and no petsitters that I've seen say plant sitting, errr, watering, too. Might be a good combination for someone! And, yes, I, too, enjoy helping others in their gardens - and seeing the choices.

how about some of the gardening/plant/seed exchange groups that are so active in SB (you lucky things, you) they'd be a hotbed of engaged, enthusiastic gardeners.

I water plants at my ex wife's house on east Haley every other day, so if you need it done I am available.

This is a great opportunity for you to meet a neighbor, or give a neighborhood kid their first job. Someone's got to take the first step.
