At The Winehound, our motto is: "Plenty of space for wine, but no room for snobbery…"

At our shop, the search for exceptional wines crosses the globe, spans the seas, and sometimes forces us to wander to the back warehouse to see what's laying around…

In our dogged endeavor to find the best vino on the planet, we'll taste a boatload of the abhorrent and undrinkable, and ferret out all those mediocrities to protect you from their barnyardy, acidic, fruitless assault-then we'll show you our chosen favorites, the good stuff: absolutely no mutts, just the pick of the litter!

We're honored to have been voted "Best Wine Shop" for the last three years by readers of John Dickson's Santabarbara.com website, and for the last two years in the Santa Barbara Independent's annual "Best Of" poll.

Located at 1221 Chapala Street, between Anapamu and Victoria, we have off-street parking (half a dozen spaces) behind our building, and a two-car fifteen minute zone in front. We're also directly across the street from city lot # 5 at Victoria Court, and after 5 pm, the massive permit-only lot on the right side of our building is available to everyone!

We're actually easy to find: just look for the doggie above the doorway…

Focusing on California and the central coast, our selection of close to a thousand different bottlings runs the price gamut from under $10 all the way to the stratosphere. If you need a flavorful red for everyday enjoyment, we'll be glad to steer you to one of our multitude of favorites in the under $20 realm. We can also assist with special occasion purchases from our inventory of rarities, cult wines and collectibles.

We also feature the largest selection of Champagnes and sparkling wines in Santa Barbara, and our staff (Bob Wesley, Victoria Newhall and Dennis Ferguson) has sixty years of combined experience in wine retailing. (Bob and Dennis are the veterans: Victoria's much younger but has a great palate!)

Sign up for our popular weekly emails which highlight the best of what we've sampled and enjoyed; they're written in an emphatic but less-than-serious style that will amuse you AND excite your taste buds. Please go to thewinehound.com; it's quick and easy… We announce our monthly tasting solely via email: it's one of the best secret values in town! We always pour too many wines, but nobody ever seems to complain…it's yet another reason to join our email community.

We also recommend our monthly wine club featuring standout values in the $15-20 per bottle range: these wines are chosen specifically for the club and will help you discover new small-production wineries, from Santa Barbara and all over the rest of the winegrowing world. Members receive two wines per month, there's no membership or signup fee and you can cancel whenever you'd like! Stop by the shop or simply sign up at our website.

The Winehound offers complimentary gift wrapping for any bottles purchased, and we're glad, of course, to assist you to your car with any carry outs.

We hope that you stop by and see us soon!
