Does anyone know of a good place for a birthday dinner for my boyfriend tomorrow night? Specifically any places with specials.

Very nice prix fixe at Downey's which would be very special - but it is $50 per person. Julienne also prices their dinners pre-fixe by the numbers of courses - an excellent choice for a special occasion that is more casual than Downey's which is delightfully formal and elegant old world.

If your boyfriend is a steak eater Jill's Place has specials on weeknights, but they come a la carte.

I just had dinner tonight at the Beachside. They have Early Bird Dinners up till 6:00 PM arrival. I think there are six choices at $13.95 on the early bird special. I had a 8 ounce steak with Clam Chowder, garlic mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. It was very good. Here is their website - http://www.yelp.com/biz/beachside-bar-cafe-goleta. The other four in my group made other choices. Most had to get doggie bags as the meals were quite large.

A really fun place is Zaytoon. They have Middle Eastern food, and belly dancers. Great out door patio. The best babaganoush (sp?) I had my birthday there a couple of years ago and a good time was had by all. Not sure about any specials.

Playa Azul has earlybird specials until 6:30pm, as I recall...I've said this before: delish Mexican food, beautiful patio (if it's a warm night or maybe they'll crank up the heaters)...on Santa Barbara St. just above Canon Perdido

I second Zaytoon. When I went before a concert I couldn't believe my hubby hadn't ever taken me there for a celebration before. The patio is very romantic with lights and private firepits at each table. Not bad food and not bad prices, either.

Happy hour specials on the patio at The Boat House - menu items for only $6.95 along with special priced drinks at Hendry's Beach is a winner. Starts after 3pm but don't know when it ends. Nicely prepared items at these excellent prices.

Holdren's in Goleta (less tourist-isy) and beautiful, outdoor, covered area with romantic fireplace. They have a great $39 dinner special that includes appetizers, entrees, and dessert. Service is great. If you want to imbibe, the beverages are superb!!!

I don't know about specials, but The PALACE is the best place for special celebrations! Bar none. Ask your waiter to make a special chocolate birthday plate and they will customize it for you. I've had incredible birthday experiences there. Prices not so bad compared to everywhere else. Unique too.

Boyfriend like ribs?? Try the brand new Killer B's at 718 State St, across from Paseo Nuevo (where Fatburger use to be). Great ribs, sandwiches, etc. Cool bar with lotsa huge TVs. Owner (Will L'Heureux) meets everyone personally at the door. And if you have an Axxess card you get 2-for-1 entrees (and 15% off thererafter). Not sure if they take reservations...

Another vote for Montecito Cafe. Great food, reasonable prices. My favorite is the pasta with lamb sausage. Delicious appetizers too. Leave room for their COCONUT CAKE, share a piece it will be romantic. Make reservations.

OMG these suggestions are weird. Following are my fav. Don't drink too much and the bill won't be too high. Sakana - sit at the bar (Montecito) Trattoria Vittorio - sit at the bar (DT) Trattoria Grappolo (Santa Ynez) Dargan's - sit by fireplace Stacky's - eat on Summerland Beach

If you want inexpensive you can always make him a "Dollar Menu Millionaire." Order him ALL the items on McDonalds dollar menu and have a picnic at the beach. Frugal and romantic.
