I wasn't a fan of carrot cake, BUT, my daughter put me on to Duncan Hines Carrot cake mix. It is delicious!

Lazy Acres has the BEST carrot cake! The frosting is divine and the cake is nice and moist. It does have walnuts so if you need it without the nuts make sure to ask to not have them included. I often go there just for a slice of carrot cake (or their peanut butter pie) and we have also ordered it for parties and it was always a big hit.

Wayne Kjar Cakes. Makes a tasty carrot cake. I've had theirs. Yum.

Crushcakes is mighty tasty too. Moist, delicious. They bake mainly cupcakes and have a light tapas menu, but if you call straight away they may make a carrot cake for you. The shoppe is located down on Anacapa and maybe....Sola? Can't remember exactly.

Jeannine's is the best, I have had the Lazy Acres version, but I'm sure it is amazing. They have really good cakes too!

What is your budget, and, do you need to feed a lot of folks ? I hate to say it, but Costco does make a very good carrot cake....is it the best?....doubtful, but Jeannines and Lazy Acres are a tad spendy.

Make it at home from scratch! This recipe makes a fan out of everybody. Plus you can make it a family activity. :)

Jeanine's. Moist, full of carrots and raisins and nuts, and excellent cream cheese frosting. I am a baker and I would not even try to make one because this one is the best.

Jeanines is the best in town. There are no raisins, otherwise, I wouldn't eat it. I just had a piece yesterday. Hands down! It's my favorite. It is always fresh and ever so moist. I will be ordering one for my Easter brunch.

Costco on the low end, but keep in mind you'll end up wasting a lot of it if you don't have enough people for a very large cake. Otherwise, I'd recommend Jeanine's, which has imo the best carrot cake in town.

El Rancho Market's carrot cake (Santa Ynez) beats anything else we've found (and we've had some pretty good carrot cake from Lazy Acres and Natural Cafe).

I also like Jeanine's, but I get Trader Joe's for family dinners all the time, it great everyone in likes it and the price is right.

If price is an issue or you don't mind having a boxed cake, the "Karat Cake" from Trader Joe's is actually really good. I had two pieces last night :)

Jeannines carrot cake is amazing. My husband can't stand carrot cake and even he likes it!

I usually like Costco cakes and pies, however, the carrot cake was extremely sweet, my husband and I both couldn't eat it and he has a sweet tooth. Sorry Costco, I usually swear by your products and prices.

Both Jeanine's and Debbie's Delights are quite good but expensive. Trader Joe's is a very good alternative. It's frozen, but once defrosted tastes very fresh. The cream cheese frosting is delish too. For about $5, you get a small cake, not just one slice. Worth a try to see if you like it!

I have served the carrot cake from the Fairview Von's bakery several times at gatherings, and it has always gotten rave reviews. Nowhere near as expensive as Jeannine's, and a more reasonable size than Costco.

JEANNINE'S takes the cake on this one: best flavor, texture, and frosting made high quality, fresh ingredients...many people, myself included, who do not usually like carrot cake, give this one rave reviews and ask for seconds!

Debbie's Delights makes the carrot cake with the highest percentage of carrot. It is the first ingredient on the list. Very moist and has huge raisins and walnuts. You may have to call them as they don't have a store, they sell through Cantwells and others. If you want to try it, go to Cantwells and buy one piece from their deli case. It will win the taste test!

I've bought directly from Debbie's Delights before. The bakery is on the corner of Garden and Gutierrez.

I disagree that Jeanine's has the best - I find their frosting too greasy. Homemade is the best, but the Trader Joe Karat cake is an easy alternative.

carrot cake = Triple Coronary Bypass/ Diabetic Coma Cake

make it at home with Stevia and 1/2 the fat called for, add applesauce, and it'll be just as good, and "better" for you!
