Fan Installation
updated: Apr 17, 2011, 3:44 PM

Referral question: Does anyone specialize in installing ATTIC fans? I was at a friend's house, and she said she has one, and it keeps the house several degrees cooler in summer. Not sure if a roofing company installs them, or who. Any suggestions?

I had an electrician install mine because it is an electric fan that uses a thermostat to turn it on and off. Not sure who installs the fans that do not run on electric power - a general handyman maybe.

We used Crocker Refrigeration Heating and Air (805-965-6326). We initially had one fan installed and then a year later got an additional one on the opposite side. Our home stays much cooler now.

Call Jer's Repairs. He installed our central AC and roof fan.

An electrician can install one. We installed one in our attic and it really helps to keep the temperature in the whole house down.

How about for DIYers, anyone have a brand and model they recommend?

I've installed them and my customers have reported a 3-4 degree drop in temperature. My question to MOARTS51 and everyone else is how do you know the electrician or any other tradesman you hire is any good? You the customer are happy with the service ( friendly tech, reasonable prices, things look and perform as they should when he leaves). But the real art and what separates the good guys from a hack is what you don't see. A referral from a trusted friend and preferably a quality tradesman is the way to go. The best guys don't advertise.

Lat point is so right. Especially w/ an attic fan: It involves electrical AND roof repair. Not everyone can do both right, and no ones wants a leak or a house burning down!
