Magazine Retailer
updated: Apr 11, 2011, 6:16 AM

Where does one buy magazines these days? All Border's and Barnes and Noble are closed and I don't think Chaucers is in the magazine business.

Read N' Post -- a combination Post Office/gift store with a large magazine rack and some books -- next to Starbucks in Montecito.

Chaucer's does indeed have a magazine section. Two aisles down to the right upon entry.

CVS - for magazines. Machines around the corner for newspapers. For both, Front page on Calle Real - Goleta.

I also recommend Read N Post or Front Page. CVS does have some magazines, but just the basics.

I have not been to Read N Post for some time, but Front Page has really slashed the kinds of magazines they carry. hardly any Linux magazines, no foreign auto press, etc. all the other mentions have zip. RNP wouldn't be such a bad idea if it wasn't so far down the road for those of us who live up towards Goleta, costs quite a good bit of gas.

832 No one buys magazine these days? Then what are those objects cluttering up our houseand mail box I wonder? Mac/World,Mac/Life, Consumer Reports, Atlantic, Smithsonian and the Christian Science Monitor join that old favourite The National Geographic in our home, and woe betide anyone who has the urge to toss a single one !

870, you're a dying breed. :-)

Actually magazine editors are the ones making the push for online presence and online subscriptions. There are more benefits for them to be online than in print.

The magazine publishing industry is experiencing a slow but inevitable death. Jobs are being lost but no doubt paper is being saved and waste material eliminated, and some jobs regained in IT and web design. But the USPS has suffered with lost revenue, for certain.

Steal from the dentist's office or wait for a herd of charming young people to come to your door and bombard you with offers to take your money.

Goleta library has magazines that have been donated, starting at 50 cents. Sometimes issues are only a month or two old.

I still love magazines and hard-copy books, no matter how dying the breed. Mourning the loss of "Gourmet" since it passed over, a couple of years ago.
