David Groom, NW corner of Patterson & Hollister, 683-2404. He and his staff are very knowledgeable, helpful, & professional. He will work with you to get the best fit for you, and is great at explaining difficult or irritating concepts. We have house & car insurance policies with him. (For ex., he knew exactly how to use flood zone classifications to change our mandatory flood coverage and reduce our cost by 2/3rds. Some of our neighbors had to educate their agents, rather than vice versa.)

How about earthquake insurance? Is there a policy that covers "all hazards" with a realistic premium and more importantly, a deductable under say, $1000?

Whoever you choose make sure to check amount of coverage of for building code upgrades, living expenses if you have to live elsewhere during a rebuild, & removal of debris. (Hard lessons learned during Tea Fire. None of this was covered through California Fair Plan and a wrap around policy from State Farm). And every few years, contact a licensed contractor from this area to be sure you are keeping up with replacement building costs. You are really your best agent....

59480 EQuake insurance seems to be roughly equal to what you pay for inclusive coverage for everything else on your home. I have the basic now which is roughly equal had a really good one still higher than I liked deductible and it was running me about $6500 more than I pay now for average quake insurance. If you are willing to pay Chubb is the best...

After having some terrible service from a local broker, he was never in his office and didn't return calls. I gave him the boot and am doing business to Geico online. Great service, they answer the phone 24/7!

We've used Mark Tomm of Tomm and Buck for many years, they are great independent insurers and have wonderful office staff. They do both auto and home insurance.

Go with AAA. Their replacement is awsome.

I've insured with Liberty Mutual since forever - fire, car, liability. They've treated me fairly, never a hassle. I don't know how their rates compare, because I wouldn't think of switching. Dave McGrath runs the local office.

It would be hard to find someone as helpful as Melissa who works with Thana at Farmers Insurance on Milpas and Carpinteria Street.
