Nohr's Auto in Buellton

They are the best! I bought a used Mercedes just because I trust Mary with my foreign cars.

Eigis at Stuttgart Motors is the best! We have gone to him for 14 years. He is honest, intelligent, hardworking, and extremely knowledgeable about Mercedes. We have had 5 old Mercedes that he has worked on. we adore him.

Second that on Nohr's.

Rich & Mary gave my old 1980, 280SE major TLC. Got me all the way to 1990.

They are simply the BEST and well worth the drive from SB.

They live & work in the S.Y. Valley & aren't moving anytime soon.

I have a friend who also recommends Eigis at Stuttgart but I have been with Peter Kurls at The Engine Company nearly 20 years now with a variety of vehicles. Peter is the authorized Bosch agent for our entire area. All of the fuel injection systems on Mercedes are made by Bosch and many if not all other cars use Bosch licensed systems. New or old Peter is the guy. I've seen some beautiful restorations in there over the years. Mercedes, Porsche, BMW and so forth but more pedestrian cars are equally welcome as well. Peter is very thorough and provides complete documentation of repairs performed..

Here's another thumb's up for Eigis at Stuttgart! He definitely knows his Mercedes and is also good with AMGs, too (the performance division of Mercedes.) He's honest and very smart. Plus he's a nice person on top of it all.

And if you have a later model Mercedes, he has the full factory Star Diagnostic System (SDS)

After Heiner at Borchers Auto Repair retired, we were sure the stars of good fortune must have been aligned properly upon immediately meeting Egis. Over the years, he has kept the four old MBZs and one BMW we own or have owned in dependable running shape. We were so happy for him when he purchased Stuttgart Motors. These machines are built to last, but they best achieve a dignified age, with high milage, at the hands of a master mechanic like Egis. He is both capable and wise, always offers practical advice: he does things smart.

A strong endorsement for Gary and the crew at Imported Auto. As a "car nut" I understand more than the average car owner how complicated it has become to keep a vehicle running properly and, more difficult still, a technically disadvantaged owner happy. I have the utmost respect for Gary's diagnostic and technical abilities. If there is a tool required for the job, Gary has it and knows how to use it. There are shops in town that just plug in new parts (hopefully the correct parts), Gary can fix parts or even fabricate parts if necessary.

I would always recommend there friendly service. I've been going there for almost 15 years with my cars out of warranty. Tim and Adrain are great and very knowledgeable. The shop in very clean and organized.

Call Martin at Muller and Goss. He has been taking car of our cars, including 2 different Mercedes, for about 15 years. He is the only mechanic I know who comes in UNDER the estimate he has given you on occasion.

Midnight in the rain on the freeway sounds like a pretty traumatic (dramatic?) experience for a female and I can sympathize with your misfortune, but it sounds like you have some misplaced anger.

Gary is part of a hard-to-find breed of "old-world" technicians and he runs a great repair shop. I think they are true specialists in Mercedes 1950-late 90's; not an easy find. I've taken multiple vehicles to Imported for years and have always felt those guys provide accurate diagnosis quickly, repairs at reasonable rates and all in a timely manner.

Choosing a mechanic can be a very personal thing, especially in a town like ours... meet with a few and don't shop for pricing, search for a facility that explains their work thoroughly and trust your instinct.

I have known the guys at Imported Auto Service (IAS) for over 12 years now and have learned learned much about their honesty and competence. One of the most important lessons I have learned is the difference between maintaining a vehicle to keep it safe and reliable and merely fixing what is broken. Yes, the latter choice can be cheaper in the short term but often leads to breakdowns and bigger and more expensive problems later. All too often I have seen people try to just do the minimum and then blame the problems that arise afterwards on the people who did the work!

Additionally, I have witnessed many cars referred to IAS by other shops because they either did not have the tools or the knowledge required to diagnose and fix their problems. Eigis from Stuttgart Motors is at IAS borrowing tools and scanning devices on almost a daily basis!

All I am saying is that years of experience coupled with the proper tools makes IAS the place to go for mechanics and car owners alike.

Imported Auto worked on my Mercedes, and did a good job, but the dynamics there seemed to be less than professional, so I chose to take it to Eigis for my future work.

Each mechanic is different and every old MBZ has some type of issue. To state one mechanic is the best is truly a fallacy. Our vocation takes years of training, experience and love for the automobile to understand all the different systems.

It’s ignorant to claim one mechanic is the best, every shop that works on older MBZ vehicles tries their best, and sometimes we fall short due to circumstances we are unable to control. Every shop mentioned in this post has good repair days and bad ones.

533: That's not true. There are good mechanics and mediocre mechanics. There are good plumbers and mediocre plumbers. There are good doctors and mediocre doctors. When someone asks for the recommendations for the "best" in any field, they look and see if one particular name pops up more often.

People in all fields live or die based on reputation among their customers. But not all professionals are necessarily doing the best they can, nor are they in "love" with their work.

It sounds like you're a MBZ mechanic who perhaps isn't getting enough good publicity(?) If that's the case you might consider hiring a publicist or a marketing guru and get the word out. A good mechanic doesn't mean that they have to be the best business-minded and so there's no reason not to get help in those areas.

But as you build up a clientele doing the best work that you can do, the word gets out quickly especially in a small town.

Erwin at International Imports has been the mechanic for my Mercedes for eons and I trust him. Egas/Egis used to work for him and I got to know him a little too. Wonderful and fair mechanics, both.
