H.E.E.A.L. - Hope through Exercise, Energy, and Art for Life will serve as a facility in the Santa Barbara community that offers an alternative to traditional talk-therapy when dealing with grief and loss. We will focus on creative and physical outlets, which include anything from yoga, pilates, strength training, drawing, painting, writing, music, and so much more to advocate healthy and holistic healing. In simple terms, H.E.E.A.L. seeks to serve as an alternative (or additional) coping mechanism than traditional talk-therapy.
Often grief and/or loss can lead to negative outlets such as substance abuse, violence, depression, and more, and allowing both the mind and body to find a positive activity to not only cope with, but to also come to terms with certain emotions, keeps instances from taking a serious and prolonged term on one's health and well-being. Guided, but not forced, to relinquish feelings of grief and loss in the safe confines of H.E.E.A.L. allows participants to freely heal in his or her own way.
The director and the Board of Directors have been diligently working on H.E.E.A.L. for the past several months, and we are pleased to announce our official 501(c)3 status. While we are new to the non profit community, we are steadfast in our goals and mission, and we look forward to helping Santa Barbara in a new way, under one roof. Feel free to visit our website www.heealsb.org to find out more. Our goal is to open our facility by the end of 2011 - in the meantime we are actively involving ourselves throughout the community and working to find the best home for H.E.E.A.L.
