You talkin' buying or selling stamps? I have a ton of them, all mint & in pages from the 40's - 60's and have often wondered what I can do with them. I'd love to unload them, but wonder if there's much value nowadays. Ideas?

Mr. Hansen who was on Chapala Street for many years has closed his business. He had a wonderful reputation as a dealer/appraiser of stamps and coins. I would really appreciate knowing if there's a reputable person in our area who can be consulted in the area of stamps. (Guidance, advice, buy, sell, appraise, etc.) Hoping to hear some community input.

They are not usually worth much, unless they are first day of issue postmarked edition stamped.... Or in a suite.... a group of stamps with some other commerative items. Or if they are irregular in some way... bad printing, double stamped, upside down plane... or for example. One year the post office put the wrong picture with the name of a person. Those stamps were never sold, but collected and destroyed. Or, if you have a huge album, it might get you more than face value. Also, Duck Stamps are more valuable because less were issued. Higher denomination stamps can be worth more sometimes. But, get a couple books from the library and check out prices first..... do you homework. Good luck.....

Nice to have advice, however, it would be great to know of a local dealer who is reputable. Unlike coins, stamps usually aren't dated so it isn't easy for a novice to just 'get a book.'

Is there still a stamp "club" group as in the past?

Stamps are dated. Check the National Postal Museum website for info. The Post Office doesn't deal with stamp collections, but they can find out the year of issue. Also, check the National Philatelic Society website for info
