I think that Athena Foley boards horses on Puente, near More Mesa Drive.

The stables at the University. It's a cooperative so you have to share in feeding and stable maintenance but it's reasonable.

Local trainer and stable manager Charlie Picerni does more to support local equestrian sports than anyone we know. Reasonable and kind ... his facility accesses all the good Montecito/Carp. trails without the $$price tag.

I was looking at a local facility online and they charge $875/month for boarding a horse in a box stall. I am in shock! I had no idea prices have shot up so high. Still checking...there has to be more affordable places.

We board our horses in Ojai for $75/month, but it's a do it yourself facility. You have to buy your hay, but they feed and water.

There's a place out on Glen Annie (no sign) that offers various and reasonable (comparatively speaking) boarding options; also there's a place at the south end of Patterson - but it's very expensive given that they offer full board only with turn outs. Nice, but waaaay over our budget. And, forgive, there's yet another very nice place on San Marcos Road north of Cathedral Oaks. Good luck. Would be interested to hear about options at the University.

There are all different ranges of boarding options available in SB, from the $875 full-care facilities to the lower-cost self-care facilities. If you must have trail access, that may limit your choices somewhat. Glen Annie does have decent trails from what I've heard; there are a couple of places in Montecito that have great trails too. I would suggest you ask around for references and talk to boarders at places, for sure. Maggie at La Cumbre Feed is a great resource when looking for any horse-related information, too. The place I board my own horse is mid-range in price and accordingly, mid-range in the amount of luxury offered. However, it has no trail access and also no available spots for new boarders. Sorry! Good luck to you in finding a spot, and Happy Trails!

Shoreline Farms on South Patterson has great trail access without ever having to ride on the street and you can also ride to the beach. They offer grass pasture turnouts, too. Board ranges from $595 to $695 that includes blanketing, three meals daily as well as the turnouts.

Bobbie King in Montecito has great access to trails, she's on Sheffield Drive, by Valley Club golf course.. Thanks to the Montecito Trails Foundation there are wonderful places to ride in Montecito with terriffic views from most of them. I don't know about Bobbie's prices but figure they are reasonable, and she has an arena. She's a good horsewoman, should be in phone book.

Okay, to get in touch with the University stables you will need to drive over there. Outside on one of the tackrooms is a phone number written on a chalkboard. There's always someone on site that might be able to answer questions. Great group of boarders.
