Ebay. Sell to the end user, not a middleman.

Don't do Ebay. It may seems that you get more $$--but take it from the voice of experience, if there's any "problem" with the transport in the mail, you will only be given face value, not metal value. Things also have been are "lost" in the mail and USPS just shrugs... Skip ebay.

With silver at its highest value since the hostages were still in Iran, I have been wondering if my silver dollars have increased in value, or if a silver dollar's value is only dependent on collector value. Can someone legally melt down a silver dollar? The old Morgan and Peace silver dollars are about 82% pure silver....a little over 3/4 oz per coin. But at today's silver price that is almost worth $26!!! I have almost 50 of these coins and would love to sell them just for their silver value. I have never had a collector offer me more than $10 per coin (they aren't in the best shape).

I've had 8 kilos of 999.5% silver since 1973. I could have done so much more with the money if I'd invested in real estate instead. Today, this silver is still part of my more balanced portfolio. Will there be inflation? Will there be a war or further disruption in the oil markets that drive energy prices through the sky?

In this same 'vein'...I have several very old gold coins. I know nothing about their value, or, what else they are made of, besides gold. Would Paul Bombal be the best person for gold coins as well?

Shouldn't the specific coins be researched to see if they have a higher collectible value before selling them as scrap? (that's what selling gold or precious metal jewelery by weight is called) Even a coin dealer will not give fair market value, but a wholesale value.

There were a couple of scruffy looking kids trying to sell an old Liberty silver dollar in SLO on Fri last week at an antique store. I wonder if there are more home burglaries going on in light of metal values?

Be careful about buying old silver dollars, they have factories set up in China faking them by the bucketload. google it If you are selling scrap midwest refinery has a good rep but if you have coins try to find a collector and bullion rounds can go to a coinshop

I just sold a bunch of Morgan and Peace dollars to Paul Brombal. I got around $22.00 for each one. The silver is worth more than the coin.

149088 - No offense, but it doesn't sound like you have much experience. For anything of any value, you shouldn't be using USPS. FedEx and UPS can insure the full value if anything gets lost in transport.

If you sell anything to anybody, anywhere, make sure you get a receipt for whatever you are selling. That is what makes the person buying the piece honest.
