Dear Edda,
My husband and I received an invitation to his best friend's wedding in May. Because the couple is a bit older - mid 30's - and have been living together for some time, they have requested cash instead of gifts from their guests. The cash is to be used for their honeymoon to Denmark.
In addition, the bride included a list of acceptable color schemes and outfits for the female guests to wear (men are required to wear plain black suits), and requested that women over 5'4" wear "flats", as the groom is short, and "this is also his day". I must say, I have never seen an invitation quite like this.
My question: do you think it would be acceptable to donate $100.00 to Amnesty International in the couples' name, and feign illness on the day of the wedding?
Signed,
Still Shaking my Head

Dear Still Shaking,
Unless you think Direct Relief would be better…
