Bathroom Remodel
updated: Feb 08, 2011, 8:50 AM

We're looking for someone who can remodel a small bathroom, complete from tearing out walls, repairing water damaged floors, designing where it all goes and then putting it all back together. We are not at all DIY kind of people, are are having a tough time finding someone reliable who 1) can do it all 2) wants a small project like this 3) is reliable and of course 4) is priced reasonably, though we'll certainly pay what's right (we're not looking for a high end reno). The last guy we talked to that we found by Googling had a felony arrest.... Makes us cautious!

My husband is a general contractor and is unfortunately too busy but the only thing I can recommend is to check their license numbers as many use expired ones or completely fake ones.
You can check here link

Best of luck to you on your new bathroom!

I would strongly recommend Richard Woods "Woody". He remodeled our first bath and we were so please by the outcome as well as his professionalism (worked very clean, punctual, easy to work with, and is reasonably priced and on budget for both bathrooms) that we retained his services again for our other bath remodel. His phone number is 452-5976. He is licensed. I can provide pictures and discuss further if you would like. Call me at 403-1309.

Mary Winder is an architect that managed our remodel and did a fantastic job of bringing it in under cost and on time.

Her phone number is (805) 452-9063

She has a crew that is reliable and professional.

I highly recommend Owen Finley (of Owen Finley Construction Co.). He's repaired our water damaged roof, tile, carpet, and wood floor. He is also currently remodeling our neighbor's bathroom. A local family man with great references and a lot of experience. His business number is (805) 722-2181. He is licensed, bonded, and insured.

(We keep coming back to them because they get the job done fast and they do the work themselves)

I would be happy to look at your bath remodel. I just finished up a remodel project on the westside and can show you the finished project as well as put you in touch with the owner for a reference. I have several additional local references as well.

We strongly recommend Ward Restoration. They quickly repaired the damage from a burst water pipe, calling in other subcontractors as needed. And their clean up each day after working was spectacular.

If you don't mind waiting until he is finished with his current two jobs (one of them at my house), I recommend Patrick MacElearney. This is the 4th bathroom he has done for us! He is not a contractor but is very handy and very good with tile & stone. He is flexible, trustworthy, easy to work with and his prices are very reasonable. His number is: 805-636-2848. Good Luck!

You're smart to ask for referrals. They are more important than licensing in my book. Go to a couple of houses that the person did and take a look at the work if possible. That really helped us and gave us ideas on what we wanted. Dirk McKnight and his crew did a fantastic job on our remodel and new bathroom. He's done a couple of jobs for us. Everyone is local and totally trustworthy. His contact info is 689.1432.

O.J. (Owen Finley) is AWESOME! I have worked with him on many projects. He would be an EXCELLENT choice. Some of the Contractors named have hired HIM to do work in their own home.

Would suggest you not necessarily have the same person design and then implement the remodel....two different skills.

Paragon Builders. (805.745.8588) Great to work with. You will want someone licensed especially when you are talking water damaged. If they are not licensed there is NO warranty. Be careful and have a signed contract and signed change order if there is one. Best of luck.

We used Greg Davirro Contractor for remodeling 2 bathrooms, a bedroom and a hallway. The remodels turned out better than we expected. His work is beautiful, is reasonably priced, and he was a pleasure to work with. His E mail is: gdav@cox.net and phone number: 805-451-6762

Interesting that some "professionals" write their own reviews and refer themselves. Look at their finished products besides checking out their credentials.

John Lambe Construction is amazing! Economical, straight forward, quality and great at guiding you through the whole process from design, to permitting to completion. Everything from swapping out a window, kitchen & bathroom remodels, to whole house construction. I love John's integrity, dedication and even keel approach to challenges.
