Strolling down Linden Avenue is a real treat. Wonderful antique stores & great restaurants. Oh, and don't miss Island Brewing Co. for a beer!

Depends on your interests..

Plants? I like Seaside Gardens (3700 Via Real). It's a plant nursery, but they have landscaped areas like a botanic garden. They are very nice people and don't mind if you just look or wander around.

Another thing...mexican food? Don't miss Reynaldo's 895 Linden. It's just an order at the counter type place but the torta sandwiches are wonderful.

Quilter? Love the Treasure Hut...919 Maple St.

There's also watching the seals in the rookery from the cliffs at the Coal Oil Point.

Ok thats my two cents.

I second Chocolats du Calibressan, located conveniently right next to the Carpinteria Wine Company. You acn spend all the money you save on really great, well priced wines on the best chocolate to be had this side of the Atlantic.

Sweet potato fries at the Cork Tree on Linden are another sure bet.

Go for a walk on the Bluffs to burn it all off.

EDFAN has it right - Chocolats du Calibressan is amazing, and right next door to a great wine place. I adore the salted caramel Buddahs (it's my weak spot).

as a carpinteria resident, i'll "ditto" all of the previous comments and add a stroll through the salt marsh preserve next to "fourth" beach.

How about Sly's on Linden Ave?

Gianfranco's Restaurant on Linden - worth a journey. Really superb and welcome surprise - haut and creative cuisine with a very deft Sicilian Italian touch - fresh and new take on "Italian" -- and not it is not Neapolitian red sauce. It haunts from its electic shores from Africa to Mid-Orient.

Islands Brew. Sly's, Island View Nursery, The Palms, and maybe even the new BBQ place at Santa Claus Lane.

Zookers is the best place to eat in Carp.

Island View nursery is worth a stroll. So is Linden Avenue.

And a walk on the bluffs is great, particularly in weather like we're having right now. You can see the entire coastline from some of the lookout points.

Taqueria Rincon Alteno via real and Santa Monica Road by the 711 ...great tacos, fresh carrot juice, funky setting, the burritos rock.

A cozy breakfast at the Busy Bee Cafe is always a delight, you'll be treated like family! The history museum, the seal rookery, the salt marsh, ZOOKERS, ride the electric shuttle to get the lay of the land and go anywhere in Carp on it. One of the loveliest towns in this country!!

Westerlay Orchids is open to the public and has amazing plants for very little cost -- on Via Real near Santa Claus Lane. Beaches in Carpinteria are very accessible and lovely to stroll -- you can access from Santa Claus Lane, from the foot of Linden or from one of the streets offshooting Sandyland Rd.

There are lots of wholesale flower growers with retail outlets to the public for you to browse; the bluffs (Bailard at Carpinteria Ave.) is where you'll find our fabulous Surf Dog guy, Bill and can take an easy hike to view the seal sanctuary and gorgeous ocean views.

The Spot is my favorite place for a burger and fries -- just a few blocks up from where Linden Ave. meets the beach. Siam Elephant is a great little Thai restaurant; Gianfranco's Trattoria is my favorite italian place (call for a dinner reservation -- they have been very busy!) and Sushi Teri is the only sushi bar in town, but they do a great job.

Robataille's is a long term candy store local business -- a throwback to another era. Island View Outfitters is a great clothing store and our Senor Frog's has great margaritas. Most don't know it but they also do a wonderful weekend breakfast/brunch at very reasonable prices.

Yet another rave for Zookers! Dinner or Lunch on Friday or Sat. (they are closed Sun.)

Walk the bluffs near the seal sanctuary.

Stroll Linden.

Sunset at the brewery!

Check out PORCH on Carpinteria Ave. A feast for the eyes.

Several nice galleries in town. The Spot for a malt or a shake...which was recommended on edhat a week or so ago.

As a longtime Carp resident, I agree with all of the above, especially zookers, Sly's, Siam Elephant, the Palms, and IBC, but stay away from the Spot unless you really like junk food.....it's maybe half a step above McD's.

Don't forget Chalk Gallery and 855 Linden to see some nice local art, too. And a shout out to SOAP, a lovely little gift shop that also smells really good. And of course, the beautiful beaches and the salt marsh, which has nice walking trails and views.

For the best hambergers and onion rings go to Sly's. It's pricey, but worth it.

Zooker's is fine, too.

Drive north to Santa Claus lane and the Village Market - a tiny eatery with a great deli-style counter, good food, and lovely patio seating at the rear in a gorgeous little garden. They also sell small selection of culinary gifts, plus cards and garden items. (It's on the southern side of the 101, just across from Island View Nursery, another nifty place already recommended.) Enjoy!

Check out the new bookstore, the Curious Cup, at 929 Linden. They are having a grand opening on Saturday, Feb. 5th from 1-5 pm. Live music, food, authors = FUN!

The staff at Seaside Nsy.pointed us towards lunch at Village Market--really charming patio and good food! Nice beverage selection and my friend really enjoyed her sandwich (turkey & trad. fixins) and my chicken-salad on salad was great too. Wonderful bread. Very fresh food and very fast service, on a beautiful Sunday. Highly rec.

But so sad we missed the chocolatier--I miss the store in Ventura...

thanks for all the great suggestions here.

Wow, nobody mentioned Cabos Cantina. They also have great food there with great people working behind the counter. On some Saturdays they have a flea market at the museum on Maple street. Don't miss out on the alleys in town, we have some hidden shops there as well.
