Abby

I want to nominate my dog Abby for the Dog of the Week, and have meant
to do this for many months. I am totally, completely, devastated as
we just had to have her put to sleep two days ago. She had so many
friends around town that I really want to see her remembered in this
manner.
I found her as a pup advertised in the back of the Trade Express. Even
though I was eyeing one of her litter-mates, Abby made the decision to
came back home with me, and proceeded to accompany me on many
adventures on land and sea over the past 15 years. She saw me through
my master's thesis and years of field work. She loved vegetables, but
her favorite foods included cabbage, broccoli and kale. As an athletic
young dog, she loved to boulder-hop at the Playground and along our
local trails and creeks. She also thoroughly enjoyed a good beach
walk, where she would repeatedly wade out to dunk her rump in the salt
water. At home, she preferred to lie outside in the cool dirt under
the hedge, although as she got older, the couch and finally her dog
bed held her well. Her favorite local businesses included Larry's
Auto Parts and Island Seed and Feed, where the staff knew her by name
and where she knew where the treats were kept. She had a wonderful
personality and made a fine companion. We miss her terribly.
The attached photo was taken on December 29 2010, during a wind storm
after the rains. She felt very much alive.
