Bored to Tears
updated: Jan 22, 2011, 10:00 AM

Dear Edda,

The other day, my friend and her 7-year old daughter came over for a visit. We were sitting on my brand new leather sectional having coffee, and hot chocolate for the little girl. After she finished her cocoa, the little girl told her mother she was bored and wanted to leave. My friend told her they would leave in a little while. I offered to get some of my grown children's old Legos for her to play with, but she declined.

Suddenly, the little girl stood up on the brand new couch, with her shoes on, and stepped across to the brand new glass coffee table! I was dumbstruck. The mother calmly said to get down, but the little girl continued to cross back and forth. When the mother said nothing, and the girl didn't stop, I said, "Get down from there, now!" The little girl started crying and her mother told me I had scared her. I suggested how scary it would be for the girl to go through the glass table, and my friend stated that the table was made of safety glass.

Now my friend is not speaking to me and I have sneaker marks on my couch. Was I wrong?

Signed,

Flabbergasted

Dear Flabbergasted,

Well, your friend is right - glass tables are usually made of safety glass.

Edda
