Cleaning Person
updated: Jan 16, 2011, 9:52 AM
I'm looking for a cleaning person for my parents and possibly my small SB house. Can anyone recommend someone who, besides having all the usual good attributes, has these qualities: First language is English (so they can clearly understand the nuances of what I want); reasonable rates; and is willing to work only a few hours twice a month. I know about Craigslist and all the commercial cleaning companies. I'm looking for a referral from Edhat readers' personal experience. Thanks!

I think it's great that the original poster is specifying what he/she wants in a housecleaner. Two years ago I chatted briefly with two housecleaners who worked for a local company. They told me they each charged $28 an hour. I know I'll find these recommendations useful.

I'd like to hire a licences service for cleaning every two weeks, a few years ago the initial cleaning; 2 gals, 4 hours ran about $250. After that; 2 gala 2 hours $125. Is this too high or just right?? Are the gals getting $20/hr and the service takes $15+ for taxes, wc, etc? Any feed back would be appreciated.

Whoa People all she wants is a referral, not a personal documentry on your inabilities to answer a simple question. Sylvia's Cleaning service ~ she is in the phone book and you will see her little red car around town with her name and number.

"Theresa" at Launderland on Alamar & De la Vina Streets, is not only an excellent laundress (manages the laundry and workers), but is a very personable hard worker who speaks perfect English. She also takes cleaning jobs on her hours off from Launderland. Call there and talk with her; if she is not available, chances are she can refer you to another honest, loyal and capable English-speaking cleaner. Good luck with your search.

I second the referral for Diana. She's great: really thorough and efficient, but also very accommodating. I tried her based on the referrals above and am in complete agreement with them. In three hours she does by herself what takes others four (e.g., two people, two hours), and does it better, too. So, in my book, $35/hr including supplies/equipment for someone reliable and law-abiding is worth it.
