Where are the best places in town to find worthwhile senior discounts? Do most start at age 55?

I just ordered new checks from Rabobank and found out at age 55 I'm a senior and get them free! Made me think this was the inspiration for the Dire Straits song "Get your money for nothin' get your checks for free ." :-)

I'm pulling up a chair and waiting for the people who say seniors don't deserve any special breaks, but in the meantime, Home Improvement, yes. And Costco used to have a special rate on their memberships for seniors. Also so did the movie theatres.

Ross on Tuesdays has a discount for seniors. Metropolitan Theaters has senior rates, except for certain showings so you can never count on it nor does it tell you easily in the papers - I think all Sony films don't allow discounts, but otherwise it is valid, or sometimes only on Tuesday. They upped it to 65 and now lately dropped it again to 55 or 60. For basic food: IHOP has some good senior specials, dinners and breakfast items. And other restaurants often have early bird senior specials - ask around. Tree House is one. There is a "Silver Savers" program that some doctors and dentists use to honor or at least ask if they offer senior discounts. Problem is today seniors have more money than most people, but still businesses like to have them shop during the off hours and they still make a desirable customer base so they are willing to offer incentives to get and keep their business.

Tuesday looks like Senior Day. Shop at Ross and get some new clothes/shoes, go to IHOP for lunch, go to the Movies for bargain Matinee and go to Lazy Acres on the way home for some groceries.

Someone told me once that Tuesday is statistically the slowest shopping day of the week, which is probably why it's senior discount day.

62+ pay $0.85 instead of $1.75 for bus fare. But in many cities seniors get to ride free. I'd like to see that here.

Both Fairview & Milpus Taco Bell have FREE Senior Drinks. The others have 10% off the bill for Seniors ~ think you need to be 60.

Craft Essentials and Art Essentials have a Senior Discount and/or a Student Discount. Also the Oroweat Bread Store (Bimbo's now) on Patterson has a Senior Discount. Best of all - Elephant Bar has a Senior Discount Card -20%. It pays to go grey.
