Small Move
updated: Jan 09, 2011, 8:55 AM
Can anyone recommend a good local small-job mover? We aren't getting any younger and need to know of someone trustworthy with a truck, to use now and then to help us move furniture, etc. For example, we currently need help movng a dining table purchased second-hand to our home.

Great idea for a student business! I want to purchase things from Craigslist, however our vehicles can't transport the larger things and we don't have our ranch pick-up here. I hope you get some responses.

When I need something hauled away or get picked up, I just use Craigslist. There are lots of students and people with trucks offering these services. Go here: santa barbara craigslist > services offered > labor & moving. One of the services there is "Your Friends with Trucks." I've used them and it's been fine. 805-886-1376.

Movegreen was voted best moving company in town by Santa Barbara Independent. They are an eco friendly company by running their trucks off biodiesel fuel, using sustainable packing material, and planting trees for every move they perform! I have used Movegreen in the past and they were very professional and courteous. I highly recommend them for your move of any size.

843: just for the record, the person asking wasn't looking to move. They simply need someone with a bigger vehicle to transport an occasional item or two. Unless you're Movegreen and this is an ad....... ;-)

I tried hiring Craigslist "experienced" movers in Feb 2009. What arrived were a couple of Non English speaking Hispanic guys. They did the job and damaged very little but I was pretty miffed at spending $65/hr (2 hour minimum) for casual day laborers. On the other hand we did the same thing to pack up in Stanwood Washington and got 3 very strong young men who kicked-butt. How can you know?

Hi, We've recently moved to a new house and have been buying and transporting several large furniture pieces in the local area. We found this one chap on Craigs list and he charges $20-30 a time, has been extremely punctual and always been available. I call him George but I think that's not his correct name as he always laughs when I call him that, but his tel number is 805-284-6640. Tell him Keith English recommended him please. Thanks and good luck.

We used Ivan's Moving company to move a bunch of furniture into storage. They were very reasonably rated and very nice and professional. His number is 636-9707.
