My Sears range/stove is broken (burners won't heat up) and Sears says they cannot send a service technician for 2 more weeks! Does anyone have recommendations for a repair guy that could get to it sooner?

Sounds like an electric range top. Check your circuit breakers first.

YES! Steve's Appliance Service 805 895-8041 It's been awhile since I've had to call him, but he was terrific, honest & quick. He has worked on my subzero fridge, cooktop and my clothes dryer. His card says 28 years experience, so I pray he hasn't retired yet...good luck.

applianceblog dot com most appliance issues are both simple and common. search the forum for your model and you might find something simple like a switch. you can get parts locally at midway on de la vina.

Read your manual, see if there is a "reset" button. Do this after checking the circuit breaker or fuse.

James at Integrity is knowledgeable, fast and not overly expensive. I was referred to him several years ago when my regular guy passed away and his service company didn't have any techs in Santa Barbara and recommended him.

Allen's Appliance Repair is very good and reasonable. If you end up needing a new unit I recommend Pacific Sales, near Costco in Goleta. Last week we replaced our old a washer and dryer with them. They were great with selection, pricing and service.

I second trying the "dot it yourself" approach avail for free at applianceblog dot com before calling a pro. If you find you can't fix it yourself at least you've educated yourself as much as possible and won't feel as "taken" when writing the service man the check. (Hopefully.)

Another vote for Bernie at A-1 Appliance! We've had him work on a number of old appliances, and he's great.

Though I haven't had to use Jerry's services before he is a really nice guy and volunteers as a Chaplain for the Sheriff's Dept. for things like death notifications, etc.
